Last chance to book Club Carlson redemptions before rates go up

June 1st sees Club Carlson raise the redemption rates for many Radisson, Park Inn and Park Plaza hotels.  London is particularly badly hit with many  properties jumping by a crazy 40% from 50,000 points to 70,000 points per night.

You may want to lock in some redemptions now.  You have nothing to lose as you can cancel your room for a full refund of your points at any time.

Some Club Carlson hotels let you book for more than a year in advance.  If you search for properties in London for Saturday October 6th 2016, for example, all of the Radisson hotels show up – although none of the Park Plaza ones.

More details on the devaluation are in my original article here.

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Radisson Rewards does not have a dedicated UK credit card. However, you can earn Radisson Rewards points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

These cards earn Membership Rewards points:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:3 into Radisson Rewards points which is a very attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 3 Radisson Rewards points.

Even better, holders of The Platinum Card receive free Radisson Rewards Premium status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Hilton Honors Gold, Marriott Bonvoy Gold and MeliaRewards Gold status.  We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here.

Isn’t tomorrow the last day for Club Carlson redemptions before the devaluation?

    • Rob says:

Yes. The phrase ‘last day’ was not meant to be taken literally!

      • Joe says:

Thanks for the reminder. I’ve managed to book 3 nights for 150,000 points, which is far better than the £700 I’d have to pay otherwise. Big result- thanks again, head for points!

It might be worth mentioning that it is also the last chance to book the special privilege book last night free for those with access to accounts bearing the right to the free night

    • Rob says:

That would be US people only! May free up London redemption availability a bit, on the upside.

  • Lionel says:

    saved x 3 – I think that’s enough! 😉

  • Joe says:

Quick O/T question on Club Carlson: do they tend to give upgrades to gold members for points bookings, or just for cash bookings? Thanks.

    • Rob says:

I have done ok on redemptions in the past but I imagine there is an element of property by property variety.
