Le Club Accorhotels, the loyalty scheme for Novotel, Sofitel, Mercure, Ibis, M Gallery, Pullman etc, has launched a new promotion in association with avios.com and British Airways Executive Club.
Accor has teamed up with avios.com to offer triple Avios points on stays until the end of October, for bookings made after 1st July.
To qualify for the ‘triple points’ offer, you must select Avios Travel Rewards Programme or British Airways Executive Club as your earnings partner in your Le Club Accorhotels account. You do NOT have to register for the promotion. There is also no minimum stay.
Beware of doing this if you have a large existing Accor points balance as – if you have over 4,000 points – it will convert your existing balance as well as those from future stays.
One way of getting around this, as was pointed out in the comments below, is to make a ‘fake’ future booking to take your existing balance down to nil. You can cancel it in a few months when you have removed the auto-convert from your account.
Full details of the avios.com version can be found on the Accor website here. The British Airways Executive Club version is here.
Whilst that page says that you must book directly from there, the terms and conditions make it clear that you can actually book via any Accor booking channel and still get the bonus.
The standard Avios earning rate with Accor is 1.25 Avios per €1 (0.625 Avios per €1 at Ibis and Ibis Styles) so this becomes 3.75 Avios per €1 (1.875 per €1 at Ibis). See here for details.
This is not a bad return, although remember that many hotel groups give a flat 500 Avios points per stay as their standard reward. You would still need to spend at least €133 with Accor to earn 500 Avios – whilst Club Carlson, IHG Rewards Club and Hyatt Gold Passport give you – for most brands- 500 Avios per stay every day of the year, even for one-night stays, if you choose to take miles instead of points.
It IS a better deal than taking Le Club Accorhotels points, assuming you would convert them to Avios in the end. You earn – as a base level member – 2.5 Accor points per €1. These convert at 1:1 into Iberia Plus (2:1, oddly, into BA) but you need to convert at least 3,000 points at a time.
Far better to earn 3.75 Avios per €1 with an immediate conversion into avios.com rather than earning 2.5 Accor point per €1 and converting them to Iberia Plus when you have 3,000 of them.
You can see all of the small print on the Accor website.
