A few weeks ago, I wrote about the relaunch of the Sheraton brand.  Generally seen as dull and uninspiring outside Asia – where there are some very impressive hotels – Starwood has embarked on a relaunch.  This involves refurbishments, new hotels and a new sub-brand for the best hotels, Sheraton Grand, which will essentially allow you to know which are dumps and which are not.

As part of the effort, Sheraton has launched a new promotion.

If you stay five nights at Sheraton hotels between now and September 30th, you will receive a free weekend night at any Sheraton.

You can earn up to three free nights.

The free night is valid for any Friday, Saturday or Sunday until December 13th.

This offer has some good aspects:

It works alongside the current SPG weekend promotion, Make It Count

There are no exclusions – you can redeem at any Sheraton, even the resort properties

There are no black-out dates.  As with standard Starwood Preferred Guest redemptions, you will be able to book a redemption night if standard rooms are available for cash.

There are some cheap Sheraton properties in Asia which may allow you to leverage your free nights for later use in an expensive Western city.

In terms of UK redemption options, The Park Lane Hotel in London – which is on Piccadilly, not Park Lane – is technically a Sheraton although it is not included in the name.  The Sheraton in Edinburgh recently had a major refurbishment and has had very good feedback.

This promotion requires registration via this link.

The following properties are excluded from earning your free night although it appears that you can redeem at them – Sheraton Addis, Sheraton Algarve, Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, Sheraton Kuwait and Sheraton Steamboat Resort Villas.

  • Frances says:

Do you have to book hotel through sheraton website

    • Rob says:

No, the small print has the full list of options. Expedia etc will NOT be ok, Starwood websites are ok, check the position of corporate travel agents – they usually are fine.

  • Jamie says:

I registered for this last week. Couldn’t be better timing for me as I have a business trip to Washington D.C. in September. The event I am attending is at a Westin (SPG) and I do not collect SPG points, so I viewed these points at best as working towards an SPG moments redemption. Now with this promotion I have a nice plan for half term in October. The event I am attending is 10 days long, therefore I should be eligible for 2 weekend nights.

One thing I am unsure of is whether I will get 2 free nights for a consecutive stay of 10 days? Or is it a minimum of two separate stays? Worse case I could check out and check back in again.

    • Rob says:

10 night stay is ok. Remember these must be Sheraton nights, not Westin.

  • jb says:

If one book 5 nights in a Sheraton with SPG points, do they still get the free night? (I assume not?)

    • George says:

From the T&C: ‘Free Night Awards and Cash & Points Award nights are not eligible toward promotional free night earnings.’
