News in brief:

10% off Etihad economy flights

Etihad has launched a new online club for Manchester City supporters called Sky Blue.  You can register here with your Etihad Guest details.

If you’re not a Manchester City supporter, you may still be interested in the 10% discount on Etihad economy tickets which is offered to members!  In theory you can just use the code SKYBLUE on etihad.com without registering for Sky Blue, but it probably makes sense to register anyway in case they audit your booking.

The 10% discount is not valid on the cheapest sale fares so it may not be available on every flight.  It does not apply to the taxes element of the fare so the actual discount will be lower than 10%.  There is no quoted closing date.

20% off Best Western

Best Western hotels in the UK are offering 20% for stays during the remainder of August.  Simply go to the Best Western UK website and add code ‘summer’ under ‘More Booking Options’.

It is not a true 20% discount because it is calculated off the Best Flexible Rate even though the sale rates are non-refundable.  I did a few tests and it was roughly 10% under the Advance Purchase rate, so better than nothing!

Remember that Best Western will status match ANY other hotel status card you have.

Air New Zealand

Air New Zealand’s new safety video

Finally, Air New Zealand has released another of its all-star safety videos.  They really use these on the aircraft as well!

Following on from the Hobbit one, this latest incarnation – with the Rugby World Cup looming – features the All Blacks in a remake of ‘Men in Black’.  You can read more about it here.

Sent Best Western a copy of my Langham 1865 Voyager / HHonors Gold / Club Carlson Silver all together 3 months ago… there till today there has been no response.

Any idea what existing programmes / tier levels do they actually require for a match?

    • AndyGWP says:

Think I used my Accor status that comes with the Amex Platinum to do the status match when I did it.

      • Dan says:

I successfully status matched my Hilton gold to best western diamond last week. Just emailed their customer services and the diamond status was applied within 24 hours

  • Liz says:

After this months credit card spend on my IHG card I will reach Spire – probably the one and only time I will get this! Can I status match this to other hotel chains and how do I do it?

    • Fenny says:

Best Western have a form. You can email them a scan/photo of your Spire card and request a match. I did it with my Club Carlson Gold (via Amex) and got an email back fairly quickly confirming Diamond status. I’ve not used it yet, but I’ve had it for 18 months and they seem to renew it without me prompting.

Statusmatcher.com is a good source of info for this.
