Are they ‘Celebrating’ the fact that nobody got killed in the plane with the engine fire yesterday?

    Unfortunate timing…

  • Jerry says:

If you booked a BA long or mid haul flight yesterday you may be able to cancel using the 24 hour cooling off period and rebook using the CELEBRATE discount.

  • Gavin says:

i realise this is ‘money for nothing’ but really….is £63 off going to entice someone to book a flight if they werent already planning it – or if they were looking at cheaper/better alternatives??? Especially on med/long haul

    • Rob says:

£63 is essentially 25% off Moscow and 20% off New York in World Traveller in low season – it will bring forward a few bookings that were going to be made anyway.

I agree it is unfortunate timing and it would have been pulled had anyone been seriously hurt yesterday. All of the airlines have plans in place to pull all promotional activity in the case of an accident – I am privy to some of them because of HFP advertising. The PartnerPlusBenefit ad in the right hand margin for the Lufthansa small business programme, for eg, disappeared from HFP for a couple of months in the Spring after the Eurowings incident.

    • Nick says:

Absolutely it would. I’m going to look at New York flights this evening, it’s a significant discount off WT (and I’m happy to travel in WT)

  • JJ says:

If someone has a moment, how do I work out which destinations are mid-haul in some simple way? Looking at going Southern Europe . Greece potentially. Thanks for your help.

    • Rob says:

The only European long-haul routes are Tel Aviv and Moscow (taking a generous definition of Europe). It gets complicated elsewhere – Cairo is long haul so you save £63, Sharm is short haul so you don’t save £63.

    • James says:

Midhaul/Longhaul services are those offering World Traveller/Club World rather than Euro Traveller/Club Europe.

No European services are midhaul except as noted above.

  • Amanda says:

Thank you Raffles – this was great timing. I had planned to book my flight to St Lucia today so I have just saved £63 – not a huge amount but better in my pocket 🙂

  • Tim says:

Thanks as always Rob. Just tried it for Paphos and it was rejected. Paphos is 1,975 miles from Gatwick and is sold as Club Europe. Moscow is 1,568 miles from Heathrow and is sold as Club World (as is Tel Aviv). What they really mean is the discount will only be allowed on Club World routes and not for Club Europe routes, irrespective of the fact that some Club Europe routes are longer than Club World. The usual BA sham…

    • rich says:

      Hardly a sham.

      • Tim says:

        Rich,

Explain “hardly a sham” please if the offer is available in all classes when actually, it’s not.

        Thanks,
        Tim

        • cheekychappie says:

It’s not medium haul, pure & simple. Under BA’s terms.

Sham would suggest they are cheating you, somehow.

There’s no deception here. It’s not based on distance but on definitions ie as James says:

Midhaul/Longhaul services are those offering World Traveller/Club World rather than Euro Traveller/Club Europe

          • Rob says:

You also have to be realistic. The cheapest return flight to Sharm in Y is £180 return (A319 Eurotraveller). The cheapest return flight to Cairo in Y is £400 (World Traveller). This is for an identical seat to the same country at roughly the same distance.

          • Tim says:

I apologise for having a view and for making a comment based on this article and factual information – I won’t bother in future.

  • Harry says:

Thanks Raffles…..just booked my Christmas flights which I have been putting off. The 63 pound saving spurred me into action. Some of my colleagues also looking into booking today.

  • Adam W says:

Perhaps we should thank Imran for sharing this?!?!
