Mastercard raises its Heathrow Express discount to 20%

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Since last March, Mastercard has been running a special offer of 12% off Heathrow Express tickets.  This deal is scheduled to run until 31 January 2016.

Until 15th November, they have raised their game even further.  The discount is increased to 20% for the next 8 weeks.

The link for your discounted Heathrow Express ticket is here.

Heathrow Express

Note that you MUST click through from the Mastercard site every time you use this discount. If you try to bookmark the landing page for Heathrow Express and then return to it later, the discount will not show.

The discounted prices will show up automatically when you reach the Heathrow Express website. You do NOT need to add anything into the Promotional Code box on the booking page.

Here are the prices available via this link, with the normal prices in brackets:

Standard Class:

Single £17.20 (£21.50), Return £28.00 (£35)

First Class:

Single £23.60 (£29.50), Return £42.40 (£53)

If you have more than 500 Heathrow Rewards points, you can redeem those during the booking process for an additional discount of £5 per 500 points.

Whilst you are NOT offered the box to insert your Heathrow Rewards number if you use this link, I can confirm – from recent personal experience – that you can get around this.  If you are a registered HEx user and your Heathrow Rewards number is in your profile, you will receive the points.

Remember that children under 15 now travel free on Heathrow Express at all times.  Coupled with this 20% discount, you may find that the HEx is now more competitive than you thought.

PS.  Heathrow Express has also launched some HUGELY aggressive ‘advanced purchase’ fares.  I will cover these tomorrow but you will be shocked by how low they have gone – as cheap as £5.95 each way if you buy 90 days in advance.

It says book by 30th January but availability is only till 15th November ! Mistake?

    • Cheshire Pete says:

It did actually show me the £17.50 for 23rd Nov, so it did work, but as it happens the advanced fare is much cheaper anyway at £10.75!

    • Rob says:

30th Jan is when the 12 per cent discount goes. 20 per cent is until 15 November.

  • Andrew says:

Does anyone know if you can hold 2 tickets on one mobile device and ask the conductor to scan both? Or can you scan a carnet twice for 2 people? I have a carnet and will be travelling with an infrequent traveller and very infrequent HEX user so trying to work out the best way to get the cheapest trip.

  • RIccati says:

The cheapest 90 Day Advance single I see is £6.99.

    But still very cool.

    • Rich says:

      £6.99 one way
      £11.90 return (= £5.95)

The last few times ive taken the tube and allowed extra time due to the difference in price between 3 and 20 quid. But with this new AP its not worth wasting time on the tube. Best thing is unlike any other AP your not tied to a particular train, but any on the day. Return part still valid for 30 days. Awesome!

“Best thing is unlike any other AP your not tied to a particular train, but any on the day.”

Not quite – Stansted Express offer much the same arrangement (i.e. travel on any train that day) and also call it an Advance ticket, though they don’t have return fares (so if you need a return journey you have to book two singles for specific dates).

Otherwise though you are quire correct!

          • AndyS says:

Fair enough, I stand corrected. Haven’t been to Stansted!

In a similar way I think TPX also do some special airport advance tickets to Manchester Airport which allow you to travel something like one service either side of your booked one, for if your flight arrives early or late …

  • ADS says:

Of course if you have a Network Railcard you get 33% off the standard prices.

If landing at LHR, it’s worth booking in advance (or possibly from the salesperson as you exit airside), as the machines at T5 that I tried recently don’t allow you to select a railcard – so you have to queue up and buy from a person.

    • AndyS says:

Network railcard only after 10am weekdays, and daftly the HEX machines don’t sell railcard discounts, but the FGW ticket machines in PAD do !! Yes at heathrow buying off the agent does give RC discount.

  • Daftboy says:

Finally some advanced purchase discounts! I wondered what their response to Crossrail might be (I realise it only arrives in 2018); hopefully these stick around.

    • Aeronaut says:

Worth noting Crossrail fares to and from Heathrow will carry a premium – this has already been decided. (This premium will go to Heathrow Airport Holdings, or at least one of its companies, as they own the infrastructure of the line from Heathrow to the Great Western Mainline.)

Maybe these fares are a pre-emptive strike to keep the Heathrow Express service relevant.
