New IHG PointBreaks list of 190 x 5,000 point hotels, book on Monday

Yesterday, IHG Rewards Club (the Holiday Inn, HI Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental etc group) released a “preview” of the new list of PointBreaks redemptions.

These rooms are a fantastic deal.

All of the 190 hotels below will be available for just 5,000 IHG Rewards Club points per night from Monday, saving up to 25,000 points per night in some cases.

PointBreaks availability is very limited so book ASAP if you are interested, as soon as bookings open up on Monday. Bookings are refundable as with a standard reward reservation so there is nothing to lose.  IHG works on US time so I would not expect the offer to be available until mid-afternoon in the UK.

You can book via the IHG PointBreaks page here or via the standard booking page here.  If the PointBreaks page has not yet been updated, it does not necessarily mean that the special deals below will not already be bookable – do a search on the hotel you want to check.

You will be able to book these hotels for dates up to January 31st.

You allowed a maximum of two bookings per individual hotel. Each booking can be for as many nights as you want.

Remember that if you attempt to amend your booking later by dropping a night or two the whole booking will reprice at the full rate.

One of highlights of the list (and, frankly, there are not many this time around) is the Crowne Plaza Heythrop Park near Chipping Norton.  This is meant to be a decent property for a weekend break in the country, with a pool (and a slide!).   Frankly, for 5000 IHG points per night you really can’t go wrong.

There are also Holiday Inn Express hotels near Birmingham (Star City) and near Manchester (Manchester East) which could come in handy.  Some people may find it cheaper to move in there for a couple of months than continue to pay rent!

Of the European and Middle Eastern lists, the Lille property may make an interesting base for a Eurostar weekend break.  Note that the Bilbao property is by the airport which is not ideal.  The Berlin property also seems rather remote.

The InterContinental in Cairo is interesting but that is a challenging place to visit at the moment, to put it mildly.  The Holiday Inn Vilnius is back on the list and does seem to be in a good location although I imagine it could be rather chilly.

For anyone with time on their hands, you might want to consider the Holiday Inn Resort Bali Benoa in Indonesia.  If I had nothing else to do, spending a couple of months there at 5,000 points per night would probably not be a huge hardship.  This is not an expensive resort to book for cash, however, so it is not a ‘bargain’ in that sense.

    Yeah it’s a really nice town and HI Dumfries is set in lovely grounds and the communal parts of the hotel are in a lovely old fashioned building. The rooms are in a cookie cutter building hidden at the back and they aren’t too bad.

    However, HI Dumfries has been managed by a long line of complete incompetents. Since it joined IHG two years ago it has had around five different General Managers.

    It’s owned by the same lot that own HI Darlington North, Mercure Sheffield and the two new IHG hotels at Aberdeen airport, they are also building the new HI in Manchester.

    The place could give Basil and Cybil a run for their money and I am not kidding when I say it. From running out of plates at breakfast to changing the way the breakfast buffet operates – halfway through a breakfast service. No beer in the bar, but there is in the restaurant and the staff are running back and forth. Marco Pierre White appeared to suddenly detach himself from the restaurant practically overnight and now the room service menu is the restaurant menu. Front desk staff are at times incapable of leaving a tab open for food/drinks so you have to pay as you go meaning your F&B doesn’t attract points, depending on who you get at reception they may or may not know what IHG Rewards is nevermind Plat or Spire.

    There was a GM appointed at the end of last year and she appeared to making a really good go of trying to sort things out and there was improvement, however it looks like she has also disappeared.

    On saying all of that the rooms are nice, every one that isn’t a twin has a Kingsize bed and at 5k a night it’s worth it and depending on which staff are working you could be pleasantly surprised.

    If paying cash I recommend the Best Western in the town centre or the Premier Inn both offer better service and better consistency.

        Aye Chris, that HI Dumfries gm is also now gone, new guy in place.

        Stayed v recently, maybe it’s low season now but things seem to have stabilised though spire recognition continues to be poor.

        Mpw deal was losing them money so disengaging. Pictures slowly being replaced by local artists.

        Back again for business trip so great to see it on the list!

          It’s a real shame as it has the potential to be bloody good hotel. The setting cannot be beat, it’s lovely.

          Not sure why they can’t keep managers. Location? It’s remote but not that remote. I have spoken to the owner personally after one particularly bad visit and that was an experience and a half that ended up at IHG corporate so it is possibly dealing with above that is the problem. It’s a shame Tracy has left as she was really nice and did seem to finally taking the place forward.

          Ps as it’s the same lot as Darlington which was on the last PB list keep an eye out for exec rooms being released as they did release them for there. From what I gather from speaking with the owner it is someone at their head office that sets the rates and manages availability rather than on the property.

    I had a look round the HI Bali Benoa in September when we were staying just up the beach at the Conrad.
    Although the lobby+pool area was a bit quiet (off season) so felt a bit eerie, the hotel was immaculate and everything was brand new. I think it only opened up this year.
    From my quick wander round, this hotel looks a bargain at just 5,000 points a night.
    There is however very little around the area to walk to, but taxis are cheap.

    The Holiday Inn Express Lille is in a good location for a weekend break. 15 minutes walk from Lille Europe station, or 1 minute from Republic Beaux Arts metro station. It’s right round the corner from the big art museum (Palais des Beaux Arts), 10 minutes walk from the Gare St Sauveur big free art gallery, the metro will take you out to Roubaix to the Piscine art museum, and there’s a few more museums in the city too! You’re a 5 minute walk from the shops, under 10 minutes from the main square with the great buildings, and under 10 minutes from the City Hall with the tower you can climb. Only slight downside is it’s a 20-25 minute walk up to the old town, which has loads of great bars and restaurants, but for the lazy 1 stop on the metro then bus will get you there!

    Could I advise on whoever has a stay at the CP Heythrop Park that the local public house in the village of Church Enstone only 2 minutes drive is worth a visit for the real ale, food and service. I went last year when stopping at the CP.
