  The engineering works at Christmas means no trains to Gatwick on the normal route. However, there will still be trains from Victoria to Gatwick, but going a roundabout route via Horsham. It’ll take 90 minutes (three times longer than usual). But given how unpleasant “rail replacement buses” are, and how slow the road journey into central London is, this roundabout train might be the ‘least worst’ option for some travellers.
  Another detail. The December timetable means that 50% of trains branded “Express” will run through to Brighton. All day long, not just a few peak trains (as now). Express is of course just a brand name now, all trains between London and Gatwick are operated by the same franchise – GoVia.

    It will be quicker to get from Birmingham Airport to London than Gatwick to London over christmas.

  Thank god for HFP I have tickets booked from lon-gtw RTN and will now need to cancel return portion and book national express! Bloody London trains!! No email from thameslink informing me of the cancelled route. Quell surprise

  Well that is some good news Liz, although the T&C do specifically exclude it, they definitely tracked OK as I got the confirmation email. Maybe I’m just being impatient as the 40 days isn’t quite up yet !

  I think ths is specific to certain retailers – I’ve made some purchases at Waterstones using gift cards in the last few weeks and the points have all posted without issue.

  That was a shock for a second about the LGW trains. I’m flying out of LGW on the 4th Jan at 7am, but it seems trains start running from 4am that day (which makes sense, it being the Monday after long weekend. Hope the works don’t overrun.
