Bits: impressive Accor ‘Black Friday’ sale, 25% off Iberia tickets, £10 Amazon cashback last call

Two new Black Friday deals, which are still running over the weekend, came to my attention yesterday.  These are worth a look.

Accor offering ‘Happy Mondays’ prices up to three months in advance

Until Monday, Accor is selling Ibis, Novotel and Mercure rooms at exceptionally low prices – see here.  It is basically offering rooms at the same rate as its last minute ‘Happy Mondays’ deals but for stays booked in advance, up to 28th February.

You won’t beat these prices in a hurry:

Ibis & Ibis Styles (outside London): £25
Ibis & Ibis Styles (London airports): £25
Ibis & Ibis Styles (Central London): £40
Novotel & Mercure (outside London): £40
Novotel & Mercure(Central London): £60

Availability is excellent from a couple of tests I did.

You can only book via this link.  You will need to sign up to Le Club AccorHotels if you are not already a member.

If you have an office Christmas party planned for December, it may be cheaper to book one of these rooms than take a taxi home.  The rather swanky pool at the Novotel Blackfriars is below.

Novotel Blackfriars

25% off Iberia flights

BA’s sister airline, Iberia, is offering 25% off the base fare to all destinations for flights booked by 3rd December which depart from the UK.

It applies to both long haul and short haul.  There is a wide travel window from 15th January to 15th June.

Iberia Express flights are discounted by 5%.

You must book via this link – these prices are not available on the standard website.

Don’t forget your £10 Amazon cashback

Finally, if you registered for the American Express ‘£10 back when you spend £20 at Amazon’ promotion back in October, remember that you only have until 6th December to spend your £20.

The easiest thing to do is to buy a £20 top-up for your Amazon account via this page.  The credit will sit on your account until you next buy something.

Well the Accor deal certainly looked good, so I used the link to try and book rooms in Birmingham in January. £25 per room (plus £5.95 for breakfast per person). Bargain. Only the website won’t complete the booking, saying ‘sorry these rooms have just been sold’ after taking you the whole way through. But the rooms are still showing on offer at £25. Grrr. So after 7 attempts! I called the booking line, at 13p per minute. The very pleasant man said he too could see the rooms there at £25 but was unable to book it for me as it was ‘an Internet only deal’.
So an email generating business left a poor taste in my mouth. Email fired off to Accor. No reply as yet.

Must be a browser thing, or perhaps for that hotel only. I booked two nights at the Mercure Oxford for January – £40 a night for a hotel that is rarely, if ever, under £125, and is the best place to stay, location-wise.

Never use the booking line – if you do a dummy booking and then leave the page inactive for a bit, you’ll get a pop-up asking if you need help. Click on the call-back button and they will call you back instantly on your number for free.

Are you trying to book more than one rooms? It’s possible that they only have one room left at £25, so it still shows available but you can’t book more than one rooms.

I’m not getting any joy with accor deal with my android phone. I’m just being offered the winter sale prices.

Cheers – 2 nights bookedat the Ibis in Euston for 23/12 and 3/1 for £40 per night as I’m off to the darts at Ally Pally. Good stuff.

Thanks Rob – all my December/January London weekends sorted at £60/night Novotels.

  • Brian says:

Worth pointing out, since Rob doesn’t make it explicit in his post, that these rates are valid ALL WEEK! So not just at weekends like with the Happy Mondays deal.

  • Peter K says:

O/T what’s the “Test” section of HfP that’s password protected? Have I missed something?

    • Rob says:

It is a dummy page for a new competition, pending approval by the sponsor. Only visible on mobile.

    Couple of things to add…

    1) I’ve noticed a bug with the Accor website where rooms won’t complete on the Happy Monday deal if you say there’s 1 person in the room it won’t work, but changing in to 2 shifts everything.

    2) There’s an Ibis Budget in Whitechapel that shows for £25. Not sure I’d have the stomach to try it, but staggering distance from the City or Brick Lane if you feel so inclined.

    • Joe says:

The ibis budget in Whitechapel is ok, the area isn’t great but the rooms are clean and modern, stayed here for £25 last time was out in London. Would stay again if out in east London…
