Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Today is the soft launch day for a Head for Points spin-off project, Shopper Points.

You can earn 1,000 Clubcard points to celebrate.   Full details are below.

First, I wanted to explain why I have done this and what it means for HfP.

Shopper Points - Header

Why launch Shopper Points?

An increasing amount of HfP traffic each day comes from people searching online for more information about Tesco Clubcard.  Many of these people have no interest in Avios points and have no interest in reading HfP on a regular basis just to find the 5% of content which touches on Clubcard.

Shopper Points is designed for these people.  It will feature more Clubcard content than you find on Head for Points as well as some Nectar coverage.

Importantly, I will not be writing most of it.  I have roped in someone I have known for a few years and who will hopefully bring a different, younger, slant to the articles.  The launch content is all written by me but this will change as we go forward.

There are two unique items that you will only find on Shopper Points – smaller Tesco promotions which I do not consider important enough to make the HfP ‘cut’, as well as Nectar content which would never normally appear on this site.  More generous Tesco offers will appear on both sites.

There will only be 4-5 articles per week on Shopper Points.  You may want to sign up for the Shopper Points emails – you won’t be overloaded with mail.

Or, of course, bookmark the site and check back each day to see what is new.

There are two interesting references articles on the site that you might want to look at:

a list of ALL Tesco Clubcard Boost deals listed by whether they give you 4x, 3x, 2x or 1.5x the face value of your vouchers

a list of all Nectar redemptions which give you more than 0.5p per point, plus a summary of current Clubcard and Nectar bonus point deals

Earn 1,000 Clubcard points (2,400 Avios)

I have teamed up with cashback site TopCashback to offer 1,000 Tesco Clubcard points (worth 2,400 Avios or 2,500 Virgin Flying Club miles) to anyone who joins TCB this week.

You will receive the bonus points as soon as you have earned £10 of cashback into your TopCashback account.  With Christmas shopping on the way, this should be easy to achieve – and in any event, there is no time limit  on when you must earn the £10.

If you already have a TopCashback account for yourself, perhaps you have a friend or relative who shares your British Airways household account who you could encourage to join?  If you have friends who collect Clubcard points but don’t use them for Avios, please pass this offer on to them as well.

Good luck with the new venture.

    Nectar points, Snigger.

  • Danksy says:

Good luck with it rob… By the way a huge little wood ad filled the width of my (iPad) screen and I couldn’t get rid of it!

    • Raffles says:

Unfortunately, because Shopper Points will be more reliant on advertising than HFP, I have little choice but to allow some of the more aggressive ads that I have trialled – and scrapped for being annoying – on here!

There will still be less advertising than most similar sites but you will see more wrap-around things.

      • Graeme says:

Nothing wrong with adverts, just this Littlewoods pop up ad filled iPad screen and made the site unusable on my iPad, perhaps you might want to see if the ads can be more responsive to browsin device?

  • ee says:

Do you have a link for the 500 points?

    • James says:

It was on a leaflet at the tills. Currently being run in London and Edinburgh I believe.

      • ee says:

Thanks. Work in London so will keep an eye out for this leaflet unless anyone has a scan they could send raffles?

  • Brian says:

There is a Tesco spin-off called Shopper Thoughts, which gives you CC points for doing surveys – I thought this was to do with that, at first!

  • Christian says:

Good luck, glad you’ve got someone else writing it. We want to keep you all to ourselves!
I went from BA nothing to BA Gold in a year all thanks to your blog and Tesco never featured in any of it.

  • whiskerxx says:

In fact, there is a £15 offer on at the moment for any one referring a “friend”. There’s another mention 🙂

  • Gemma says:

Might be worth covering morrisons loyalty scheme as well. I’m a tesco shopper but morrisons is my closest store. They recently ran a promotion where you spend £40 and get 7p off every litre of fuel, which you could stack with their 1p off fuel for every 10£ giftcard, up to the value of the fuel effectively filling up for free if you bought enough giftcards. You can also use their £5 reward vouchers to buy the giftcards. It’s not worth buying giftcards here over the tesco scheme but if you have the reward vouchers, you are effectively getting rewarded twice this way.

    • Gemma says:

And the reward vouchers last 13 months, so alternatively you could put them aside for Christmas.

    • Brian says:

They do sell a larger selection of gift cards than Tesco, so anything that Tesco don’t stock would be worth buying in Morrisons, e.g. John Lewis, Amazon, Caffe Nero…

      • Gemma says:

I didn’t know this! Thanks for the tip 🙂

      • Andy says:

John Lewis can redeemed for Waitrose online I believe, not sure about in store.

        • Brian says:

Instore, too – it says on the back of the card.

          • Gemma says:

I’ve got lots of coupons from the magazine. Might do my shopping at waitrose this month! Who woulda thought I would get more ccp shopping at waitrose than tesco!

      • Mike says:

I was in Tesco today and they do have an extensive list of gift cards available. Add the voucher from the Xmas magazine for 100 extra ccp for a gift card £20 or more then buy another £30 worth to get the standard extra 150ccp for a £50 purchase and it’s still very worthwhile buying them in Tesco. 250 ccp is a pretty good return.

  • Tom C says:

Best of luck with this, Rob.
