Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get £50 cashback when you spend £150 at American Express Travel

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

This very generous offer – £50 cashback on a £150 travel spend – has just been launched for American Express Gold and Platinum cardholders.

To see if you have been targetted, you need to log in to your American Express online account and take a look at the offers on your Gold or Platinum statement page.  Most, if not all, cardholders will see it.

It is restricted to the first 10,000 cardholders to register.

This is a slightly complex promotion and you need to make sure you follow all the steps.

Once logged in to your Amex account you must save the offer to your Amex card.

You need to spend £150 in one transaction on pre-paid flights, hotels, experiences or car hire at americanexpress.co.uk/travel

Non pre-paid products do NOT count

Paying by Paypal, even if you use your Amex card, does not count

You need to make your booking by March 31st but there are no limits on when you fly or stay

Only one statement credit per card (supplementary cards would count separately if they are registered with Amex and the offer can be saved to them)

Apart from that, you can book anything you like.

This promotion would work best when booking a flight because you will still earn airline miles and status credits for flights however they are booked.  It also works fine for car hire and non-chain hotels.

Remember that any chain hotel booked by Amex Travel may not count for points, status benefits or stay credit if it is pre-paid.  Non pre-paid bookings will almost always earn points but those will not count for this offer.

That said, as Amex is a major corporate travel agent I would expect that you have a pretty good chance of getting credit for your stay.   You certainly have more chance than you would if you booked via Expedia.

As the offer runs until March 31st, you have plenty to time to take advantage even if you don’t already have a Gold or Platinum charge card but are willing to apply.  My review of American Express Gold is here and my review of American Express Platinum is here.

Got it on my gold card. Will come in handy for my trip next month as I need a car for a week

  • Tobi says:

It’s also available on the Green Card (my case); so it’s not restricted to Gold and Platinum cardholders.

  • Mr Cinnamon says:

I assume if I book and pay for car hure before 31 March but am using the car in April it is still eligible for this offer, as the payemnt transacion is before 31/3/16?

  • luke says:

Not on my gold charge…actually in last 4 months only 2 offers came up on my card – small business promo and south african airways 100 £ off 500£+ flight…not good at all

  • Danksy says:

The Amex travel statement credit is also good for ‘experiences’ which when you search brings up airport transfers, theme parks, tours etc! Perfect for our trip to California in a few week ex CPH.

PS Worzel will be pleased that I’ve snared some good savings to offset my eldest daughter’s love for the thermostat whilst we are away.

Raidsson park inn Malmo – got a BRG so room for 2 plus breakfast only £50 (staying outbound and inbound).

Intercontinental LA – used my IHG free night for one $499 per night stay, joined IHG ambassador for free breakfast for two each day !

Omni Los Ranchos – picked up two nights for $370 then got a confirmed upgrade to exec suite using the BT GHA deal!

And of course we are flying MCE ex CPH for £230 each return!!

    • Worzel says:

Danksy, all looks good with the trip-CPH makes sense(costings etc) from down this way(BRS) and I’ve looked at possibilities from there myself.

As for cost savings on the “Home Front” – as you are doing, it’s best to try to save elsewhere!
Our three have now left(although they do return when convenient) and at some stage you realise that you have been dealing with the “Secret Service” all along- at least it was just 4 onto 1 here!!

Have a great trip away Worz 🙂 .

      Dansky

Free breakfast for 2 at IC for Ambassador!
I joined yesterday but I didn’t think you could get free breakfast, is that if you are using the weekend voucher from IC and booking the ambassador cash rate?
I have 2 nights at the IC park lane ( IHG card voucher plus points) and was hoping for an upgrade 😉

  • Rhys says:

Have it on both platinum charge card and credit card. Glad I didnt cancel the latter now!

  • plastikman says:

got mine on my gold charge card – should come in useful.

  • Gordon says:

Does anyone know what the baggage policy is on flights. I ran a quote on amex but there was no option to select the number / type of bags. As it stands their quote is £238 with aer lingus but the aer lingus site shows £162

    • JQ says:

It should be less restrictive than what you see on their own site. Do a lookup with ITA to see if you can replicate the booking class
