Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get 100 free Clubcard points (240 Avios) with every £50 MoneyGram transfer

Tesco has recently introduced MoneyGram money transfer counters into many of its larger stores.  This allows you to send or receive money via almost every country in the world.

MoneyGram is unlikely to be as cheap as using a specialist currency broker such as Azimo (who are currently offering a £15 Amazon voucher for first time users) or TransferWise

However, for small transfers, the convenience of being able to access a MoneyGram counter in your local store seven days a week may well outweigh any extra cost.

To encourage you to give them a try, MoneyGram is offering 100 Clubcard points – worth 240 Avios points or 250 Virgin Flying Club miles – when you send £50 or more.  The £50 target spend includes the fee.

The offer runs until 27th April and you can take advantage of it as many times as you like.

Full details can be found on tesco.com here.

That’s a shame, was planing on trailing sending some USD ahead of my trip next month!

  • zsalya says:

TransferWise (and probably Azimo) look to have large marketing budgets.
Thus there is a risk that they will drive out the peer-to-peer competitors who can be expected to offer better rates long term.
E.g. Midpoint and CurrencyFair (I have no connnections other than as customer)
The latter has the additional advantage that one can leave orders, and the entire order book is visible (I have seen amounts from GBP50 to GBP200,000)

At the time of writing, for GBP1000, TransferWise is offering EUR3 more (this is their landing page) but USD4 less than CurrencyFair.
Midpoint is an additional USD3 better than CF.

Hi Alex, can you remember how long it took to track? Thanks.

  • Genghis says:

Is anyone aware of any arbitrage opportunities with this offer? You don’t seem to be able to pay in GBP and collect GBP.

  • Jimmy says:

Been using CurrencyFair for over a year and they offer better rates than transfer wise. Now off to check out Midpoint

    • Jimmy says:

If you are happy to put an offer in and wait rate on currency seems better.

      So on a £10,000 transaction

      Currency Fair €13577
      Mid Point €13571.90
      Transferwise €13511.44
      Azimo €13436.30
      Moneygram – sucks €10166.60
