LAST CHANCE: Get a Hilton HHonors status match from your existing hotel loyalty card

The third article today is our regular ‘last chance’ feature which reminds you of promotions which are about to close and which you may have forgotten.  This one is too important to tuck away there.

Tomorrow, Monday 11th, is the last day to ask Hilton HHonors to match your existing hotel status card.

Your new status will last until 31st March 2017.

There is no excuse, none at all, for not doing this if you have status with any other hotel programme.  Hilton is not guaranteed to accept requests from some of the more minor schemes (even Accor appears to be having mixed success) but it does no harm to ask.

The website you need to visit to apply for your match is here.

Hilton Diamond 350

You should do this even if you only have mid-tier status with another hotel programme.  Hilton Gold (their middle level) is the best in the business.  You will receive free breakfast, except at Waldorf-Astoria properties, and an upgrade of some kind.  Being able to match, say, IHG Rewards Club Gold – which has no real benefits – to Hilton Gold would be a great result.

I was able to match my IHG Rewards Club Spire Elite status to Hilton Diamond.

The gap between Gold and Diamond is not huge, to be honest.  It does guarantee me lounge access whenever I stay at a Hilton Group property which has a lounge which, in itself, makes it a status worth having.  You do not get guaranteed suite upgrades.

Anecdotal evidence is that Hilton status gets you better recognition in Europe than in the US, where the market is swamped with Hilton status members.  This is another good reason to apply.

If you want to see more about the benefits of Hilton Gold and Hilton Diamond, you can see the official details here at hilton.com.

Comments

  1. Thanks for the reminder Rob. Just submitted my IHG Gold.

  2. OT: if you have a query with your IHG points from the credit card who do you contact? Do you need to wait till the points actually post into your IHG account before querying.

    • No, it’s Barclaycard you need to take it up with and you can do so as soon as your monthly credit card statement is online – you don’t need to wait for anything to go across to IHG. Raise a formal complaint if the figures are wrong and there’s a good chance of compensation too, their IT is appalling and rarely gets things right!

    • wr@barclaycard.co.uk can fix any problems you have.

  3. Regarding the no free breakfast at WA properties. I’m staying at the Hilton Waldorf London this week as a Gold, is that an Astoria or is Hilton Waldorf something different? I suspect I would be better off all round in the Conrad.

    • It is treated as a Hilton. There is no W-A in London now. Conrad is a far better hotel overall however unless the location puts you off.

      • Hi, great thread … will give LeAccor Plat match to Hilton Diamond a go as quite a few people seem to have had success …. I didn’t bother previously as didn’t think Hilton would go for it

        • My wife seems to have been refused (well, no response from Hilton) but others seem to have got it looking at the comments here.

  4. Thanks, have just submitted a screenshot of IHG Gold, so will hopefully get matched to Hilton Gold.

I’m staying at the Amsterdam Waldorf Astoria next month (credit card free night). Am I likely to get an upgrade on that, or anything else with Gold? (To be honest, €500 worth of room is pretty good to start with so I won’t be complaining…)

  5. The gap between Hilton Gold and PLatinum is an extra 20 nights. Does that mean if they match my IHG Gold, and I “skip” to Hilton Gold status, that I only need to complete an additional 20 nights to reach Platinum? Or would I still have to complete the full 60 nights according to my current zero status?

    • The_Real_A says:

      Full 60 nights :(

    • I think you mean Hilton Diamond, not Platinum 😉 You don’t get any stay/night/base point credit with the status match so you’ll be starting from zero if you want to earn Diamond I’m afraid.

  6. Accor Plat with some actual stays :) Applied before Christmas via email and was offered a fast track, but not a status match.

Left it until last Tuesday, applied again using the app with just a photo of my online Accor card, matched to Diamond within 3 days.

Raffles, did you try again for your missus?

  7. ElectroDuende says:

Applied with Melia Rewards Gold before christmas and no answer yet… cannot re-apply, as the HHonors number appears as “already used”.

  8. Just realised I sent them a .png (picture) file showing my IHG platinum status when it says they can only view .jpg (picture) files. NUTS ! Hopefully they can actually open the other format or simply ask me for another copy.

Anyone know the relevant Hilton email address I could contact, can’t find on their website ?

  9. Thanks for this, I got my IHG gold matched to Hilton gold

    • Premier01 says:

IHG Platinum matcher to Diamond today within 2 days of E-mailing.

I had just got Gold status through a challenge type offer…can’t remember the exact promotion but it required 4 stays within 90 days.

On 2nd January my accont was uograded o Gold with an expiry date of March 2018.

Does anyome know whether my account will get reset to Gold in March 2017 or regardless of how many stats I have?

There’s a reasonable chance I will achieve Gold anyway as likely to put more stays Hiltons way.

  10. Just been upgraded to Diamond after previous upgrade to Gold before Xmas with Accor Platinum . Thought it was worth trying once more before the promotion expired as have a family stay in London next weekend. No way would I have achieved this without the information provided here @HFP. Big Thank You

  11. Jordan D says:

Accor Plat to Diamond. Uplifted from the Gold I already had having put £10k through the HHonors Credit Card in the last 12 months. Happy with that outcome.

  12. Accor plat to Diamond. Felt a little cheeky really as I’ve never once earned a Hhonors point in my life. But heading to Hilton Park Nicosia so we’ll see what happens there!

Got an email last night after applying Sunday afternoon…

  13. Accor Platinum to Diamond, applied on the last day and checked today it had been processed – thanks for the heads up!

  14. Woohoo ! Just had IHG Plat matched to Hilton Diamond.
I tend not to stay in Hilton properties so will have to do some reading up on HFP :-)

  15. Thanks for the tip – now a Diamond.
Does this give any benefits if not staying at a Hilton ie at the bar/restaurant etc.

    • Not really – SPG let you get points when dining at the hotel even if not staying but that’s not something Hilton offer (you need to be staying at the hotel and charge your restaurant/bar bill to your room to get points)

  16. Thanks for this. I have IHG Platinum Elite (not sure how I am still that as don’t hold paid for credit card and no paid for nights!), and yesterday received confirmation this had been matched to Hilton Diamond. Well pleased with that!

Now a question – can I use my newly acquired Hilton Diamond status to get a match with any other scheme?

  17. Just checked-in to a Hilton hotel and saw the following sign at the front desk:

    Status Match with HHonors
It’s easy – send proof of your other loyalty card level and Hilton HHonors number to BSHME_Frontoffice@hitlon.com and we will match your status with HHonors so you can enjoy the rewards and benefits whilst staying at a Hilton Worldwide hotel*
