Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Sales and vouchers round-up – Opodo, Hotels.com, Thistle

I’ve had a flurry of emails this week promoting various sales and discount codes.  None of them are as lucrative as the Accor UK hotel sale I covered yesterday but some may work for you.

Opodo £1m discount codes giveaway

Opodo is offering a mix of discount codes at the moment.  Two are valid against flight-only bookings which makes them especially interesting.

The deals are:

£20 off a £300 flight booking

£50 off a £1,000 flight booking

£40 off a £600 ‘flight and hotel’ booking

£100 off a £1,200 ‘flight and hotel’ booking

For the first two codes, multi-stop flights and low cost airlines are excluded.

The deadline to book is 7th February.  You will need a special discount code to claim your discount which can be found on the Opodo website here.

Hotels.com 48 hour sale ends today

Hotels.com has been running another 48 hour sale this week.  The ‘deals’ under these offers can vary from good to poor, but it is worth taking a quick look if you need any hotels.

You must book by midnight tonight for stays before 2nd March.

The special landing page for the sale is here.

Heathrow Pod 350

Thistle Hotels Winter sale now on

Finally, Thistle dropped me a note to promote their Winter sale.  This runs until 28th February – full details are here on their website.

Remember that Thistle Heathrow is letting you travel in the driverless pods (pictured above) to Terminal 5 for free until the end of March.  I covered that here.

If you can get that hotel at a good sale rate then, as you’d also save £5 on the Heathrow Hoppa bus fare, you’d be doing OK.

I’ve only just blocked the newsletters from those 2 Iberia plus earners

Hi Andrew- is it better to ERewards to Accor than direct to Avios?
    Leo

    • Andrew H says:

The 250 miles were just a sign-up bonus from completing one survey.

However, signing up for E-Rewards with Accor is better than Avios, because E-Rewards will also give you the option to transfer your points to Iberia, which requires less points to redeem an award!

  • Andrew H says:

That doesn’t sound too clear so let me clarify: when you sign up to E-Rewards with Avios.com, you can only redeem points for avios.com.

If you sign up to E-Rewards with Accor, you will also be given the option of transferring your points to many other programs, one of which is Iberia. Iberia have slightly different reward values, so you can earn points quicker with Iberia.

    • Andrew H says:

Further clarification: my original post about 250 points was referring to a direct E-Rewards->Accor bonus. I then transferred them from Accor to Iberia.

Roberto – I presume my story didn’t qualify for Heathrow Rewards then – I will check with them.

What’s the 10k from BA Blue?

As regards your 20k groupon avios purchase, a lot of people on Flyertalk are in the same boat and already filing disputes. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/iberia-airlines-iberia-plus/1731559-interesting-groupon-selling-avios-spain-11.html#post26055482

It is possible to sign up with e-rewards through more than one or two or three sponsors.

  • Gavin says:

I signed up for the Tesco credit card, and got a referral form from Rob (thanks btw).

I did my first spend on 27th December, then I posted the referral form at Heathrow on 30th December. I’ve had 1000 points posted on 31st December, which I assume is from the initial spend as it’s surely too quick for the referral.

I seem to recall Tesco were posting the referral points fairly promptly though – any feedback on how quick they have posted? I don’t want to call Tesco and then send off another form but it looks like I might have to…

    • roberto says:

I am in the same boat with regards to one of the expected 2 lots of 1000 points showing and think its the referral bonus we have.. The sign up bonus according to the T&C can take up to 90 days and history says that the referral bonuses tend to post real quick..

      • Gavin says:

That makes sense. I must admit I haven’t got the blurb to hand, so will just keep checking my Tesco account. Still that and the Pet insurance should guarantee at least 5000 clubcard points for the next quarter.
