An avios.com and Tesco competition – but no sign of a BA or Virgin bonus

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

There is, so far, no sign on any British Airways Executive Club or Virgin Flying Club transfer bonus for Tesco Clubcard collectors this quarter.

To be fair, this doesn’t mean there won’t be one.  It just means that it hasn’t appeared yet – which means the odds are against it.

Avios.com and BA are running competitions, however.

The competitions are not life changing but better than a slap in the face.  As the Tesco / avios.com page states:

Win 15,000 Avios

We’ve got 25 prizes of 15,000 Avios to give away. To be in with a chance of winning simply exchange £2.50 in Tesco Clubcard vouchers for Avios between 29 January and 29 February 2016. For every £2.50 you exchange, you’ll receive one prize draw entry.

The British Airways competition is different – 1 entry for every £5 you exchange.  This makes me think that they are being run separately and there are two prize pots.

However this does not mean that it is a worse competition as it makes no difference to your odds of winning whether you get one entry per £5, £2.50 or even 1p exchanged!

The ‘Tesco to avios.com’ conversion page is here.  The Tesco to BAEC page is here.

No word of anything from Virgin …….

Slightly OT – Just booked with Virgin for end of year trip to Floirida, accounts almost all empty, looking at moving all future points earning to BA after this.

    UC out PE rtn, 71250 miles & £370, not bad…. 🙂

Will really miss their friendly service, but lack of UK connections is a stumbling block..

  • Anon says:

Hoping for a BA bonus…. Will keep checking skywards for any Oinks

    • harry says:

Did you miss out on the last one? Surely not…BAEC just had a bonus conversion in November – we’ll be waiting at least another year for a repeat (and maybe 2 years or more). Very nice indeed, glad my supposition paid off and we could exchange unlimited amounts of Tesco clubcard points for the bonus 🙂

However – Tesco clubcard points —> avios.com is a very real possibility in the near future. The 2 UK Avios schemes seem to like maintaining the semi-pretence that they are separate schemes & it would be completely expected IMV if a very similar bonus conversion opportunity pops up in the next few months.

      • Jason says:

I already have too many Avios to know what to do with them as I couldn’t spend them, for the first time in 5 years, and booked 4 seats on Etihad, on the 380, 2 in F and 2 in J.
My November tesco points went to Hilton via the virgin bonus and this quarter’s points are earmarked for virgin to Hilton again, or when a virgin bonus appears.
I had spent 320k Avios on 4 J to Doha on the 380, pre devaluation, but when I cancelled to book Qatar OSL to MLE in their sale( £740 in J) I found out they had changed it to a A320.

  • Mark says:

BA do have a similar offer if u click through, but theirs says 1 entry for every £5 converted. Which would imply the two prize draws are being held independently.

  • Tilly71 says:

Do you really think they will hold another clubcard promo considering BA only held one a few months ago?

  • harry says:

O/T but free Avios on IB store might be back, not sure if you need to actually buy anything or not – might be enough to simply register same as last time. Maybe a couple of us could check it out, though since I already registered for the free Avios last time, they might ‘see’ the same IB a/c and not pay out. I could only see it when logged in as Spain/ Spanish, and site a bit trickty to open (as is frequent with IB!) Not sure if they are cute enough to work out non-Spanish IP addresses.

Harry did you ever get the extra points from IB store for purchasing the Groupon offer? I.e the extra 10 points per euro spent?

      • harry says:

No – not the extra points. I’m chilled about that, though – as I got the emails for the 4x 12000 ‘buys’ (I screwed up on the 2000 🙂 ). Says we might need to wait 40 days, which is about now.

Did you not get these emails? –
        Estimado/a harry,

Damn I had factored in a Virgin bonus into travel plans.
Even 10% would make me happy

    • Thomas says:

Virgin emailed with 20% bonus on transfers now ..

      • Boi says:

I just got the 20% bonus email as well. Now I am torn….I have a lot more earning potential with BA but was thinking of building a virgin “pot”.

How often do Virgin have 4 or more upper class reward seats to anywhere?

      • Danksy says:

Earn an extra 20% bonus miles* when you choose to convert your Tesco Clubcard points into Flying Club miles between 1 February and 14 March 2016, and bring those dream destinations a little closer.

Why not also treat yourself to 1,000 bonus miles at the same time? Simply choose to Auto Convert your points and watch your miles reach new heights with every shop**.

With so many miles up for grabs, it won’t be long before your everyday shop ends up taking you somewhere extraordinary.

  • Tilly71 says:

I never got my fee IB points from last time, I can’t seem to unsubscribe from the emails too.

    • Mark says:

Yes, they won’t let go of you for emails, will they?! Ignore all unsubscribe requests, and even seem to have a way of getting past my giving them junk status in Thunderbird too…

    • Ian says:

Always use a spare email account that you can just delete.

  • Guy says:

    Whats the consensus here?

Auto convert clubcard points to avios/virgin/ba.

Or get the vouchers and wait for a bonus?

    Thanks

    • harry says:

Consensus here is NEVER autoconvert except to receive a bonus – and then only with a small quarterly ‘earn’ of Tesco clubcard points.

      Autoconversion is otherwise pointless.

Not for us as we are both on 30K again 🙂

      • Guy says:

        Thanks Harry

      • SingingDwarf says:

30k already? That’s some going, just a couple of days into the new quarter!

        • Tilly71 says:

Near on impossible to have 30k clubcard already. Do you mean 30k on each account still to be converted from points to vouchers from last Q.

          • Jason says:

Not impossible, I did 28.5k points in one day last November 🙂 with the help of a few coupons and a helpful CS!

          • Tilly71 says:

I wasn’t saying in general it’s not possible just not in this new quarter as there’s nothing really around worth getting for the bonus points. If your prepared to spend a considerable amount of outlay you can do 30k in a day but it would be expensive.

        • harry says:

Oh right – is it the new quarter already? 🙂

      • Naf says:

Auto convert is useless unless u still get the grandfathered 800 Avios per £2.50. Or has that finished now?
