  1. Thanks!

So do I just ignore the AA reward change?

I have 38,744 miles and my wife 52,354 miles

Not really sure if we have enough to do anything decent with before the change, or whether the change will affect us too much. Have no desire to use the tickets to go to the USA for example on an economy flight.

I now credit everything to BAEC.

Do i just forget them and let them expire in a years time? I’ve let too many points just expire over the years on AA and Virgin that I have ended up forgetting about – so would like to not waste them if possible.

Or can we use them for something half decent?

    Thanks for any suggestions!

    • AndyGWP says:

Can’t you use them for hotel redemptions rather than let them die completely?? :)

Failing that, domestic USA travel would be an option

    • If you are based in Europe then Europe – Middle East/India (includes Maldives) is a real sweet spot in the current AAchart (30K in J and 40K in F one way). You can also book on Etihad using AA miles and it is my understanding that as long as you keep everything else same, change of date is free of charge in case you want to lock in current prices. Cancellation charges are $150 per person or $175 for 2 (if on same reservation).

      • I agree, topped mine up via AA buy miles option and redeemed for AUH Etihad First Apartment, then onto MLE

        • Decided, I will let them expire in a years time – too late to buy additional miles and use them.

Would have opted for first to the middle east.

          Not to be :)

          Thanks anyway

          • AndyGWP says:

I’m curious why you won’t redeem for hotels (I’m in a similar situation to you but worried why you’ve ruled it out – have I missed something??) :)

            • Mainly because you get naff all for the points.

Or you do in the CA where I was looking.

The 50,000 points equate to maybe $150 value at most

          • If your an active member of Flyertalk you could offer them on coupon connection in exchange for Avios etc. This may generate interest, I would be interested in a swop. you can PM me on FT same name.

  2. I’ve used the Amex £50 credit last month, had the email confirming it, but no credit. Booked 2 rooms on the same booking for £151 but it’s been broken down on my Stevens as 2 prices.
This is nearly 4 weeks ago.

    • G Flyer says:

Call up Amex to explain, and they should sort it out. I had exactly the same issue in an earlier promotion (a year or two ago) and they happily fixed it.

  3. 23 March – last day to use PayQwiq for the first time for 500 cc points

    • If you got offered the 500pts that is! From the shopper points thread it seems a lot of us weren’t offered it.

    • Just used mine this morning! Then deleted the app ….

      • Any word if people are getting the pts for first use even if no email offer?

        • Genghis says:

It’s worth a punt I guess if you shop at Tesco normally and don’t have to go out of your way to pay with the app.

          • I’m going to try somewhere in London on Wednesday night on the off chance before my overnight coach to Paris (unlikely to be a guest review on HfP but is a mere £18 with Ouibus including wifi and plug socket)

  4. Simon Fisher says:

Tried to find a bargain sale flight but gave up in the end. Following the links and selecting business Europe I ended up selecting the button to show me what prices were available when! This took me to a screen where I was looking at all destinations and all months (great) but also economy tickets prices! This fooled me at first but then irritated me as whatever I tried it didn’t seem to be able to show me just business fares.

My bargain £48 pound flights each way to Budapest turned out to be economy at midnight the business class fare for which was £203 sigh.

I would not have wasted an hour of my like trying to book a ticket a talking to then BA customer services had The first screen shown just business prices.

  5. I wanted to add a correction to but there does not seem to be any way of adding comments there.

I have discovered, having just arrived at the Thistle Heathrow on a booking made on, it is not correct to say they are providing free pod transfers to and from the airport. They are providing them in one direction only and you have to pay for the other.

So bus 423 for me in the morning.

  6. My Council Tax bill has just thudded onto the mat.
Remember that some councils accept payment through PayPoint (you need to ask them for an Allpay card). In this way I can use Amex at the Coop to pay my Council Tax with no surcharge.
I have used Visa Gift Cards (GoSpendIt) in the same way last year. I remember because I tried to pay £50 in each of two consecutive transactions and the till got very confused. Of course this only applies if you have Tesco Spend and Save vouchers which you would not otherwise use.

    • Always worth trying a Visa / MC credit card under the debit card option. My council has accepted my Marriott and BMI credit cards in the past when I said they were debit cards. Curve may, or may not, also work here.
