News in brief:

Redeem your Avios points from Humberside Airport

Great news for anyone living near Hull, Grimsby or Scunthorpe.  From next Friday 15th April, British Airways is launching flights from Humberside Airport.

OK, it isn’t quite as exciting as that.  It isn’t British Airways directly, it is BA franchise SUN-AIR of Denmark – although the plane will be painted in BA colours and the flights will earn Avios and tier points.

Secondly, you can only fly to Denmark – to Aalborg (see below) and Billund (home of Legoland).  The service is being underwritten by Siemens who need to be able to move staff between their wind power operations in the UK and Denmark.

Flights will only operate on Fridays and Sundays, using a single-cabin Fairchild 328 jet with 32 seats.

Out of the UK to Billund, there is 16.55 on Fridays and an 18.45 on Sundays.  The Sunday flight goes via Aalborg.

Flights to Humberside leave Billund at 15.10 on Friday and pick up in Aalborg at 16.00.  There is also a direct Billund service inbound on Sundays.  A weekend break in Billund is therefore possible but not to Aalborg.

Flights are bookable, for cash or Avios, at ba.com.

Win 60,000 Avios in a Melia Hotels competition

To celebrate the opening of their first hotel in New York, the INNSiDE New York NoMad, Melia Rewards is giving away 60,000 Avios and two nights at the hotel in a Facebook competition.

You don’t need to be on Facebook to enter.  Simply visit their page – the answer is Berlin – and submit your details.  The closing date is the end of April.

The INNSiDE in New York has just opened, details here, and is worth pricing up if you are heading out there.  Rates will be very competitive for the first few months and obviously you will be getting a brand new room.

If you recently gained Melia Rewards Gold status via your Amex Platinum card, this will also be a chance to put your new status to work.

Park Plaza County Hall

Park Plaza Country Hall – just £129, today only

Until midnight tonight (Saturday), Park Plaza hotels is selling the Park Plaza County Hall in London for just £129.

This rate is valid for stays until 6th June.  The rate appears to be available every day so if you are locked into a high rate for a London stay over the next few weeks it might be worth taking a look at this.  You can add breakfast for an extra £10.

You can only book this rate by going to the Park Plaza website and using the promotional code PARK.  Rates will be substantially higher – over £100 higher on some nights I checked – if you do not use the PARK code.

Park Plaza is part of Club Carlson.  You will earn Club Carlson points from your stay and, if you have Club Carlson Gold status via Amex Platinum, you will also receive your benefits.

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Radisson Rewards does not have a dedicated UK credit card. However, you can earn Radisson Rewards points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

These cards earn Membership Rewards points:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:3 into Radisson Rewards points which is a very attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 3 Radisson Rewards points.

Even better, holders of The Platinum Card receive free Radisson Rewards Premium status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Hilton Honors Gold, Marriott Bonvoy Gold and MeliaRewards Gold status.  We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here.

Anyone any good advice for packages / hotels at legoland Denmark?

Not sure about competitive rates on INNSIDE in New York…

I was looking at it couple of weeks ago, in advance and rates were above 300USD.

  • @mkcol says:

Hmmmmm….I’m not getting the County Hall for £129, but significantly higher rate. I presume the code PARK is put into that box on the first screen when you search as I don’t see a box later to enter it.

    • Rob says:

The box marked Promotional Code, not the corp rate box

      • @mkcol says:

Yep that’s the box I’d used.
I think I’ve figured out that it’s sold out at the rate for the dates I was checking, as opposed to not offered at all, as I found it on other dates (I didn’t need).
        Thanks though.

Park Plaza County Hall was a £100 cheaper this time last year. Talk about inflation 🙂

Sitting in the executive lounge at the Conrad St James having a wee drink. Had our free night room upgraded again to a junior suite even though it was booked on my hubby’s silver account with me having Diamond status. We also stayed 2 nights at the Hilton Bankside – lovely hotel and lovely staff – we booked through Hotels.com on a really good rate. We also got a room upgrade and access to the executive lounge with breakfast all included. Enjoyed our wee trip to London. This is the life! Thanks Raffles and others for all your help and advice!

Saw a bit of BA route news in the mag today, might be of interest & I guess RFS availability should be q good this early: (all from LHR except Bergerac)

30/4 starts to Chania & Kalamata (Greece)
    1/5 London City —> Bergerac
    29/4 Menorca
    30/4 Palermo
    1/5 Biarritz
    3/5 Inverness & Billund, Denmark

Thanks for flagging this competition up, Rob, have just entered it – via Gogo inflight internet on transcon F on A321T with AA as part of an HNL TP run – AA business product across the Atlantic was excellent as is this in F. Even better Gogo gave me a code for free access after I asked them nicely on Twitter 🙂

Fancy giving the Sun Air service a try so have jumped in on a HUY-BLL redemption 1-3 July. Cash fares are on the high side (£263 return at the moment) so a great Zone 1 redemption for those of us up North who no longer get free domestic connections on short haul.

The route being new is bringing up a few ba.com bugs – Humberside doesn’t seem to be loaded as an airport on the main website so couldn’t search. The Android app let me book no problem though.

Also can’t select seats at the moment online – rang the gold line who couldn’t do it either as the seat maps haven’t been loaded yet – guessing this should be sorted by the time the first flight goes on Friday.

Also no lounge showing on MMB on the outbound – whether the Servisair lounge is offered or not might become clear – looks like no big miss if it’s not and is a PP/Lounge Club lounge.

If not doing Legoland, car rental rates are very low if looking to go a bit further afield. Have booked a car for the weekend for £37 on Auto Europe, and as Club Carlsson Gold booked Radisson Aarhus for £54 a night on the 2 for 1 rate thanks to HFP!
