News in brief:

Free Heathrow Express upgrade for Star Alliance Gold members

I wanted to run a reminder about this offer as it appears to be running indefinitely now.  If you are have Star Alliance Gold status via any of the 21 Star Alliance frequent flyer schemes, you can upgrade to First Class for free on Heathrow Express.

There is a snag.  You need to have to buy a full fare Heathrow Express standard class ticket.  It isn’t quite clear what they mean by this – I know that people who have used the Mastercard discount have been OK but you are still buying a full fare ticket that way, albeit cheaper.  It isn’t clear if discounted Advanced Purchase tickets are excluded – they probably are.

You simply buy a standard class ticket as normal, sit in First Class and show your Star Gold card to the conductor when he passes through.  Full details can be found here.

400% more Heathrow Rewards points with Official Heathrow Airport Parking

Heathrow Rewards and Official Heathrow Parking have launched a decent offer for the Summer.

For parking booked by 2nd August via the official Heathrow parking website, you will receive 5 Heathrow Rewards points per £1 spent instead of 1.

At Heathrow Rewards points convert at 1:1 into Avios or various other airline schemes, you are effectively getting 5 Avios per £1.

This offer is not on the Heathrow parking website but was circulated by email to Heathrow Rewards members and does not appear targetted.  Points are credited within 14 days of entering the car park.

The parking deal is interesting as I have notice a huge hike in parking charges for POD parking and valet. The later has more than doubled in the last year. Instead of parking am using taxis this summer far cheaper.

    • Gavin says:

Presume parking hikes are here to stay to try as Heathrow try to reduce access by car given the third runway decision is pending

    • Danksy says:

Yes, me too Paul! I’ve got to get family of 5 to LHR with full luggage allowance … Struggling to find the best deal at the moment!

      • Rob says:

Try one of the £1 Europcar rentals I mentioned over the weekend, or their standard ‘one way to Heathrow’ deals.

OT – emailed a 1500 points for next stay offer from IHG. Appears targeted. Valid for stays for the next 90 days. Presumably paid stays only.

O/T. Had a reminder from Kaligo this morning about their BA upto 20000 avios promo finishing “before” the 20th .. Does that mean its finished or has one day to run? Anyone know ?

I have emailed them but am jumping on a plane in an hour and wanted to take advantage if still available.. Cheers in advance if you aware..

    • roberto says:

To reply to myself Kaligo got back to me almost instantly by email and said :-

“The promotion mentioned would be expiring today on the 20 June 2016, 12am, UTC time. However, we would advise to make the booking at least 1 – 2 hours in advance from the excat cut off time, just in case if there are any unexpected delays that may occur during your booking attempt.
I hope that clarifies, and please feel free to let me know again if I can be of further assistance. Have a great week ahead!”

I booked 24900 avios for a £1082 (cancel-able) booking that was £30 dearer than direct with Four Seasons. Result.

For the Heathrow parking does it simply need to be booked before 2nd August or does the entry date to the car park have to be before 2nd August?
I have a number of flights booked for the rest of the year which I will use official heathrow parking for, normally I would wait and book the parking nearer the time to avoid paying up front but if it simply has to be booked before 2nd August to trigger this then I’ll get them all booked in before then.
