Bits: 10% BA Diamond Club discount is back, 30% off in the Accor Summer Sale

News in brief:

The BA Diamond Club discount is back

Well, here’s a surprise.  At the end of May, the 10% discount on British Airways flights offered to holders of the old bmi British Midland credit cards stopped working.

We had all forgotten that the discount was actually mean to end around that time, since we had been given well over 12 months notice.

Well, the link is working again.  Log in at www.diamondclub.org, click through the big banner ad to ba.com and you will see your flights pricing up with a 10% discount.

I don’t know how long the deal will last but it is worth using whilst you can.  Thanks to Richard.

Accor Summer Sale now on

Accor Hotels has been running a sale for its Sofitel, Pullman, Novotel, Mercure, Ibis, Ibis Styles and Ibis Budget brands for a few weeks now.

It slipped through the HfP net originally but, as we have only just entered into the stay period – stays need to be made between 4th July and 11th September – now is a good time to mention it.

The sale covers Accor hotels in the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg and Austria.

Discounts are up to 30% off Best Flexible Rates – although the sale rates must be pre-paid – and an additional discount is given to members of Le Club AccorHotels.

Full details can be found on the Accor website here.  The last day to book is 4th September.

Is it me but each week the Happy Monday deal, has a worse selection in London. You used to have a selection of 20 hotels now your lucky with 4 or 5.

  • harry says:

O/T picked up my Sainsbury’s currency deal this morning – the Travel Money agent breathlessly told me I had saved £182 on today’s rate! (Should have ordered more than £1500!)

She said that there were tens of people making similar % savings in ‘her’ store, so surprised Sainsbury’s didn’t pull the rug – well done them.

Hope some of you did OK with the Moneycorp option.

    • Lawro says:

O/T- What is the quickest way when cancelling a Hilton points redemption to get the points back into my account.
Does cancelling online cause the points to redeposit instantly into my account?
Or is ringing Hilton themselves the best way to go?

      • ankomonkey says:

Only ever done this once, but after cancellation the points didn’t show immediately in my account. I logged out and back in again and they were there. This was within 5 minutes of cancelling, so if my experience is anything to go by, they do re-deposit immediately but you need to logout and in to see them.

      • Clive says:

        It’s virtually instantaneous

    • Alan says:

Wish I’d gone for USD with Moneycorp – did € and given it has fallen too there’s not much benefit so far.

    • Kathy says:

Well done! Surprised they honoured the rate – my pre-order at ACE FX was refused when I went to collect it.

  • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

I think I have a year’s supply of gift cards after the Amex £20 off £50 Pizza Express deal.

  • harry says:

OK points transfer to IB is not going to happen – but you can already redeem on IB – maybe BA later? Maybe an Avios + cash deal to get you a very cheap flight?

    • Lawro says:

Had a albeit brief look at this and I believe they want you to send some sort of ID for verification so might not be as straightforward it looks.

  • harry says:

How exciting 🙁 – and loyal Tesco consumers got the Boost events taken away from them in exchange for that?

  • Bal says:

Thanks for this article! I cancelled mine & my wife’s Diamond Club cards several years ago. On the of chance, went to their URL, logged in using my most commonly used email/password and voila, found 4000 points. My wife logged into hers … another 1400. All now moved across to BA.

Thanks Raffles .. that made my day!

  • Rob says:

Saw this but considered it unlikely given Meridiana and Flybe are not in CMA.

  • AndyR says:

Accor related – I remember they were extending Platinum status through 2017 for some people but couldn’t remember why? Did anyone manage to get it extended by asking?

    • Rob says:

They are moving to a calendar year model so all status will end in December. They moved everyone out to a December end I think. However, I got my membership year extend to April 2017 later and it hasn’t budged – although logically it should reset to December at some point.

      • AndyR says:

OK thanks. Mine is showing April 2017 also, so wondered if I had been missed. Hopefully it will update.
