Etihad A380 business class deal – Sydney, Melbourne from Istanbul for £1,500

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

I dropped this in as an extra article because you only have 36 hours.

Etihad launched a major sale this morning.  I will take a look at the offers from the UK tomorrow – they are OK but not in the Qatar Airways pricing mould.

However, if you are planning on heading to Australasia anytime soon, there is a stunning business class fare available from Istanbul to Sydney or Melbourne.

This is a two day ‘flash sale’ fare which only run until 29th August.

Etihad A380

Istanbul to Sydney is pricing at £1,512 ($1,987) return.

The best bit is that, if you pick the right flights, you will get a Boeing 787 connecting to an Airbus A380.  These have the best Etihad in-flight product.  I reviewed the A380 Business Class Suite here – it is probably the best business class product on the market.

There is also a dedicated Etihad A380 website here.

Istanbul to Melbourne is pricing at the same level and, again, you can mix a 787 and A380 all the way.

These prices are available until mid 2017 although you might find peak weeks unavailable.

You can book via the Etihad site here.

In terms of mileage, you could credit the flight to Etihad Guest or any of their partners.  Crediting to airberlin, for example, may be enough to get you oneworld status which would give you BA privileges.  You can also credit Etihad flights to American Airlines.  In both cases, you could redeem the miles on British Airways if you wanted.

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Etihad Guest does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Etihad Guest miles by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:1 into Etihad Guest miles which is an attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 1 Etihad Guest mile. The Gold card earns double points (2 per £1) on all flights you charge to it.

Qatar sale? My carelessness side hopes your serious and my conservative, sensible side hopes your just joking.

      • Rob says:

        No joke 🙂

Great news but it does write off my Bank Holiday Monday searching for good fares !!
Ex-UK only, EU wide departures or worldwide departures sale ??
Fingers crossed for some incredible Biz fares on Globetrotter valid routes 🙂

QR have just downgraded my parents & I from the A380 to a 777 DOH-BKK-DOH in biz so I’m not best pleased with them today.
I paid extra for the A380 flights too over whatever else was flying that route at different times.
Won’t hold my breath for QR Customer disservice to offer me a refund of the difference 🙁

          • haasha says:

Aaaaargh, just found out they have done the same to my folks – B787 to B777 change on DPS-DOH, not happy… 🙁

          • harry says:

not sure it’s reasonable to expect there to be a fare difference adjustment just because they changed the plane & the later fares were different to yours? & the plane was different?

others may disagree, happy to hear the various thoughts

could be a good sale coming up

          • harry says:

I guess otoh you hire a car – call it a Bugatti

then they give you a Smart Car

you’d feel a bit fed up

          • Rob says:

You have no rights at all, even flying out of the UK.

In the past BA has swapped Club World for Club Europe on routes such as Moscow and tried to get out of paying compensation (it usually ends in court with ‘no disclosure’ agreements).

I don’t quite understand why you appear to have no rights, since airlines makes specific promises about features on certain aircraft and it makes sense that you should be allowed to cancel if those features are no longer available. But you can’t. The basis appears to be that you pay to go from A to B and you have no other contractual rights.

  • David S says:

Thanks for the heads up Rob. Did see the deal for Etihad on flyertalk this morning but I didn’t know the Qatar sale was starting at midnight since have been waiting for that to book our flights to Oz next year.

    • Damboy says:

Had been tracking Heksink to KL business class flights in October / November on Qatar for last week. Had been pricing up at about £1250 but today all flights are increased to around £1900. So huge increase in price in advance of Qatar sale to make sale look attractive? Doesn’t seem to be de and related as same no. of seats available.

      • Damboy says:

Last sentence supposed to say ” doesn’t seem to be demand related as availability looks the same.”

  • Axel heyst says:

Amex 10% off net price on Etihad flights has also been extended to Dec 17. Theres a link in etihad website.

My planned Etihad flights to se asia have gone up by about 5% following this mornings “sale”

    • Mikee says:

I tried the Amex 10% discount link but the fare wasn’t reduced as the promo wasn’t valid for these fares. Not sure if there’s another discount available? I tried a few codes but none worked with the current promo.

    • James67 says:

Sorry, just posted the same without readingredients comments first -agreed.

    • Simon M says:

I was able to take the booking all the way through to payment (but not purchase) with the 10% off base fare in conjunction with the promotion from Dublin to Sydney. It had a gold star over the top of the fare to indicate the AMEX discount. I ended up seeing 4300Euro for 2 people, outbound on Dec 7, inbound on 17th of Jan.

  • James67 says:

Take ‘sale’ with a huge dose of salt, I have been following their prices to SE Asia exEDI for several weeks already and the sale prices are generally higher than those published presale, not by much but higher nonetheless.

  • Axel heyst says:

Agreed. EDI – SIN is up £50 in Y! TK is still the cheapest but …I’ll pass

PROMO10 code is working on some Open Jaws to SE Asia

    • Erico1875 says:

I think TK is a 737 EDI to IST. Is it like Club Europe or are they proper bus class seats. £1200 ish to Bom over Easter

  • Alex W says:

Can these Etihad flights be booked as Virgin Australia and credited to Virgin Atlantic?

    • Rob says:

Not unless there are VAus sectors with VAus flight numbers.

I assume you could credit the whole lot to a Virgin Australia account, even with EY flight numbers, and do a VAtl redemption from there? You couldn’t merge the miles with an existing VAtl balance though.

  • James says:

Just checked out the Qatar sale..Unless I’m missing something it’s only one economy and premium? I guess all will become clear in the morning!

  • Concerto says:

Don’t forget the extra cost and hassle of a visa for Turkey.
