How to earn Marriott points flying Emirates and Emirates status benefits at Marriott hotels

Marriott Bonvoy and Emirates Skywards have a low profile partnership called ‘Your World Rewards’.  It allows you to double dip with Emirates Skywards miles and Marriott Bonvoy points in the same transaction.

‘Your World Rewards’ is designed to encourage Emirates flyers to stay at Marriott Bonvoy hotels and vice versa.  The bottom line is that signing up is a no-brainer if you qualify

Do you qualify for ‘Your World Rewards’?

‘Qualifying’ means that you have either:

  • Gold Elite status or higher in Marriott Bonvoy or
  • Silver status or higher in Emirates Skywards

Full details can be found on the Emirates website here and on the Marriott website here.

Your World Rewards Marriott Emirates

If you are an Emirates status member staying at a Marriott hotel:

If you are an Emirates Skywards Silver, Gold or Platinum member you will receive 1 Skywards mile for every $1 you spend in a Marriott Bonvoy hotel.

Only spend on the room rate counts – you do not receive Skywards miles for food and beverage spend, spa treatments etc.

Importantly, this is in addition to the Marriott Bonvoy points that you already receive.  It is a genuine extra benefit.

If you are a Gold or Platinum (sorry Silvers!) Skywards member, you will also receive additional Marriott Bonvoy benefits which are equivalent to those that a Gold-level Bonvoy member would receive.  These are:

  • Priority check-in
  • 4pm late check-out subject to availability
  • Enhanced (high speed) wi-fi

If you are a Bonvoy member flying with Emirates:

Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite, Platinum Elite, Titanium Elite or Ambassador Elite members will receive 3 Marriott Bonvoy points per $1 spent on Emirates flights.  All Emirates flights count as long as your ticket is under an EK flight code.

You do NOT earn Bonvoy points on taxes, fees and surcharges included in your ticket price. This will have a large impact on your earning if flying in Economy, but will not move the needle much on a full fare business class ticket.

This is a very generous deal in my view.  I value Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.5p eachA £3,000 ($3,750) Emirates business class flight would therefore earn you £55+ of free hotel stays, less an adjustment for the taxes and charges element of the fare.  This is on top of your usual Skywards miles.

Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite, Titanium Elite and Ambassador Elite members will receive priority check-in and priority boarding. Note that the priority boarding benefit is only for the Marriott elite member, with no guests allowed.

How can you get Gold Elite status quickly to take advantage of this?

You can obtain Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status for free by signing up for the American Express Platinum credit card.

The Platinum Card comes with a sign-up bonus of 40,000 American Express Membership Rewards points which converts into 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points or 40,000 Emirates Skywards miles.

How to earn Emirates Skywards miles from UK credit cards (March 2024)

Emirates Skywards does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Emirates Skywards miles by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:1 into Emirates Skywards miles which is an attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 1 Emirates Skywards mile. The Gold card earns double points (2 per £1) on all flights you charge to it.

I am signed up to this. I am fairly sure I have received EK points for staying at Marriott hotels but not received Marriott points for flying EK.

    • Blair Waldorf Salad says:

The time taken for EK to credit your flights to Marriott can be up to 6 months IIRC. My experience was that it took the maximum amount of time as specified in the T&Cs.

  • Matt says:

“ Note that the priority boarding benefit is only for the Marriott elite member, with no guests allowed.”

This may be how the rules are written, but EK staff are unlikely to ask passengers travelling with you to join the back of the queue if you turn up at check-in or at the gate together.

I used this benefit a few times while travelling on EK economy with my wife, without even realising this rule existed.

  • RussellH says:

I was invited to join this scheme some years ago, but I was then and still am now just Marriott Silver, and that through having the Creation Marriott M’Card.
I have never been on an Emirates plane, nor ever likely to.
Signed up for a number of good looking Marriott promos too, though never able to take advantage – seldom any Marriott hotel where we want to stay.
I do not recall having heard from the partnership recently though – maybe you get dumped quietly if you do not use it?

  • Mo says:

You need to be an emirates silver member for this be worthwhile and work both ways (i.e. fly with someone else, stay at a Mariott and get extra emirates points) and other than flying, I don’t think there’s an easy way to get that

  • Ryan says:

I have points landing on both accounts, which is good. On the EK side there is an itemisation of points for what, as it provides detail of the hotel stay associated. There’s more guesswork required on the Bonvoy side, which simply dumps chunks of points at random intervals. It’s easy to spot which are associated with flights as they are in the thousands, but there’s also a constant drip of tens and often hundreds of points during the month and I’m yet to work out why (or shout too loudly to find out)

  • Novice says:

I have 15000 Bonvoy points and I don’t think it’s enough for any decent hotel so what should I do with it?

    • Matt says:

Use them when you only need a basic hotel (e.g. Airport) or if you’re going somewhere that is generally inexpensive, for example, South Africa has great options under 15k.

  • Ian says:

“Low profile” is an accurate description – so low profile that as a Marriott Platinum member but with nothing with Emirates, whenever I show any Emirates staff person my Marriott Platinum status in order to get priority check in, boarding etc, they seem never to have heard of it. Being customer service focussed they generally assume I’m right and let me go ahead, but it doesn’t seem to have any recognition
