Another benefit for Marriott members joining Starwood – dining discounts

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

If you are a Marriott Rewards members who has just signed up with Starwood Preferred Guest in order to benefit from status matching and points transfer, you may not know about this deal.

Starwood runs a range of dining discounts for its members under the title of ‘SPG Cravings’.

Sheraton Grand Palm Court

These are valid globally, but I have just focused on the London ones here.  You can navigate through the website to look at other areas.  The key here is that you don’t need to be a hotel guest to take advantage of these discounts – and you will earn SPG points (convertible to Marriott Rewards) for your meal at the same time.

The general discount is 10% off your food bill although the stunning Palm Court (image above) at the refurbished Sheraton Grand Park Lane offers 15%.  You will also earn SPG points at your standard rate.

Note that Spice Market at the W Leicester Square recently closed.

Anyone can benefit from these savings if they are planning to eat at any of these restaurants.  Starwood Preferred Guest is free to join at spg.com although you will need to print off a membership card or download the app as they do not send one until you have completed one hotel stay.  American Express Platinum members get an automatic status boost to Gold level.

Shame about Spice Market closing, as I thought it was pretty good. I’ve had a few great business lunches in Plum + Spilt Milk and would highly recommend it, although would still pick The Gilbert Scott over at St. Pancras, albeit you won’t be getting your point there.

P.S. Your link to “London” list is incorrect, as that links through to whatever your current location is – this is the correct link: http://www.spgcravings.com/en/restaurants/united-kingdom/london

I took my mum out for dinner at the Gilbert Scott. Had an amazing night. It’s a beautiful room, overlooking a beautiful building. Ambiance was fantastic!

  • Dave says:

I dont use marriot but they are a preferred supplier near my office so a lot of people who work remotely on my team have tonnes of points. Chatting in the car with one yesterday and he was completely unaware of the situation here, does he have to do anything to avoid loosing points or will his account just become starwood after a certain time?

    • Rob says:

Both schemes will close and a new programme, probably Marriott Preferred Guest, will launch 1st January 2018. Accounts will be transitioned across I’m sure.

  • Alan young says:

I am a lifetime gold with SPG, will my gold status with Marriott also be a lifetime gold?

  • Aliks says:

Any thoughts on buying Starpoints with a view to exchanging into Marriott points?

    • Rob says:

May be worth it if the 35% discount comes back.

It is most likely to be worth doing if you only have enough points for a small travel package but want one with more miles.

  • John says:

I am aware that this not the correct place for this question….

Does anyone know why I would be having difficulty transferring my amex points to SPG? My account number has been rejected through the amex portal on several occasions.

    • Alan says:

Assuming account details all match I’d call Amex and ask them to push it through manually.
