Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

New IHG PointBreaks list of 125 x 5,000 point hotels released, book on Monday

Yesterday, IHG Rewards Club (the Holiday Inn, HI Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental etc group) released a “preview” of the new list of PointBreaks redemptions.

These rooms are a fantastic deal.

All of the 125 hotels below will be available for just 5,000 IHG Rewards Club points per night from Monday, saving up to 25,000 points per night in some cases.

PointBreaks availability is very limited so book ASAP if you are interested, as soon as bookings open up on Monday. Bookings are refundable as with a standard reward reservation so there is nothing to lose. IHG works on US time so I would not expect the offer to be available until mid-afternoon in the UK.

You can book via the IHG PointBreaks page here or via the standard booking page here.  If the PointBreaks page has not yet been updated, it does not necessarily mean that the special deals below will not already be bookable – do a search on the hotel you want to check.

You will be able to book these hotels for dates up to January 31st.

Please note that, whilst this list was released to some US websites, it was not given directly to Head for Points and I cannot be 100% certain that the final list will exactly match what is listed below.

You allowed a maximum of two bookings per individual hotel. Each booking can be for as many nights as you want.

Remember that if you attempt to amend your booking later by dropping a night or two the whole booking will reprice at the full rate.

To be honest, this is a pretty weak list of hotels.  The one that looks most interesting in Europe is a Holiday Inn Express in Hamburg ….

However, as I always say, the world doesn’t work like that.  We all have our individual travel schedules for the next three months and – if any of these hotels prove suitable for your itinerary – you’ve got a great deal.

          I also thought it’s one of the PB hotels! I often stay there, it’s a very nice hotel if you want a quiet weekend!

      I stayed there on their opening week and it was like an episode of Faulty Towers….all the floor numbers and signs to room numbers were mixed up and not even the staff could find my room! 

      I got chatting to one of the contractors in the bar and it was eye-opening to hear the money that had been spent on the refurbishments. Bonus points if you stay there and spot the mega-expensive wallpaper that’s been put on upside-down.

      David Cameron arrived too when I was checking out as he was there to officially open the hotel; think he is (was) the local MP.

    If you remove the holiday Inn express which is a very low budget ‘hotel’ or doesn’t leave a lot.

    Would love to know which saves 25,000 per night.

      Holiday inn express hamburg saves 25,000. Usually 30,000/night.

      Gonna try and bag a weekend break in December for the Christmas markets! Cash rate is €117 so not worth 30k, but definitely worth £5k!

      The HIX is very low budget and the breakfast is not very good when compared to a Hampton, I would not recommend to staying in a HIX if there is an option of a Hampton unless its a last resort

      I wouldn’t agree with that generalisation.

      Many HIXs are quite good, I’ve stayed in HIXs that have been better than CPs when they are new.
      Also, I’ve seen city centre HIX going fro 35k and above quite regularly.

    The HI Dresden Am Zwinger is absolutely fantastic. Much more luxurious than ‘normal’ Holiday Inn rooms and a great location for the Dresden Christmas markets (Dresden is one of the best cities for visit for the markets and other sights too).

    The Holiday Inn Lille is a good option if you’re driving into Europe from the Dover ferry crossing its an hour or so from Dover, and close to the main autoroute heading to east France, Germany, Switzerland, etc, so nice first night stay if you catch the evening ferry. Have stayed there quite a few times.

    Stayed at the Holiday Inn Hamburg earlier this year on the earlier pointsbreak. Fantastic hotel with great staff. About 5 minutes from the S-bahn that takes you straight into the center (10 minutes). Also its directly on the S-bahn from the airport. Very easy for a weekend stay.

      Also BA flight times are good for a weekend (late friday/sunday) , and avios availability was very good.
