Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Important dates for your diary – offers about to close which you shouldn’t miss (Oct 2016)

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Here is the latest edition of our regular feature which summarises offers that are ending soon.

It pulls together the different deals mentioned on our Top Avios Points Earning Offers, Top Hotel Bonus Points Offers and Top UK Credit Card Offers pages.

Miles and points offers which are about to close

I wrote about the end of the Virgin credit cards deal in a separate article today.

One oddity is the Amex deal of 40,000 points for getting the Nectar credit card.  Whilst this was due to run until tomorrow, it has disappeared from the Nectar app and website for most (all?) of us who were targetted.  The only way of getting 40,000 points vs the usual 20,000 points is to use that link.  Has Amex pulled the deal early?

  • Richard Shakeshaft says:

I spoke to Nectar yesterday about this and was told the offer had expired on 26/10.

    • Danksy says:

I applied on 23rd October – Not heard anything 🙁

    • GS says:

They have taken down the offer page as it apparently expired on the 26th. I was quite annoyed as the offer email said it was open for the month of October and even the small print did not say it expired early. I made a complaint and sent them the images but they refused to honour the deal.

  • Go says:

The Miles and More deal with Best Western has disappeared and has been replaced with this new less generous deal

Earn extra miles from 1 November to 31 December 2016 when you stay in participating Best Western Hotels and enjoy the warm and cosy season a little more: the more overnight stays you have, the faster you add to your mileage account, and in addition to the standard 500 miles per stay, you can benefit from up to 3,000 extra miles.

Valid from 1 November to 31 December 2016

500 award miles for every standard stay
For the 2nd stay an extra 500 miles
For the 3rd stay an extra 1,000 miles
For the 4th stay an extra 1,500 miles

  • James says:

Sorry for OT: I want to use the lounge pass card that comes with AMEX Gold. Do I need to show the Amex Gold too when I enter in the lounge or lounge pass card is enough?

  • Liz says:

IHG Offer to,purchase points with 100% or 80% bonus is on till 16th November

    • Rob says:

This is targeted – not sure how targeted yet!

      • Liz says:

I’ve already purchased my maximum amount this year but got an email saying my limit was lifted and I could buy another 60k with 100% bonus!

  • Kit says:

OT: does anyone know whether SPG points would be awarded for a prepaid reservation where the guest was a ‘no show’? I need one more night for a promo. Worth booking a cheap room somewhere and not checking in??

    • Alan says:

No, you have to check-in to receive stay credit/points (same for all programmes).

      • xcalx says:

Sometimes they may slip through . I had a Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport and a couple of Marriott Courtyard Patong advance bookings credit points and stays.

        • Alan says:

I’m not saying it’s always the case, but some properties have been known to check everyone in even if not present just to make sure they get their occupancy as high as possible to increase their reimbursement for points stays 😉 – not really a problem for us points collectors of course!

    • Rob says:

      No, sorry.

    • Nick Burch says:

Every wednesday starwood release a bunch of discounted rooms for the next 6 weeks, you can sometimes get one of the london properties on a quiet night for not too much. Or get a cheap european one and have a weekend away 🙂

  • Rupert says:

IIRC – 31st Oct – Last day to move avois from diamond club to BA.

  • Jonny says:

OT. Can you use a family members Heathrow rewards card to make a purchase in T5 duty free? Travelling later today with no option (that I can see) to transfer the points to my account. Have their card on my phone

  • Clive says:

Another OT – can you retrospectively claim Heathrow rewards?
