Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

SAVE THE DATE: HfP Christmas party, Tuesday 6th December

I’m delighted to announce that, after four years of pestering from readers about organising a get-together, we will be holding the first Head for Points reader Christmas party on Tuesday 6th December.

We will be taking over the Dry Martini bar at the Melia White House hotel.  The White House hotel is an attractive 1930’s building situated just a few minutes walk from Warren Street, Regents Park and Great Portland Street tube stations.

This will be a great opportunity for you to have a few pre-Christmas drinks and, more importantly, to meet fellow readers and to share your travel hints and tips.

Melia Hotels International is generously sponsoring the party and underwriting a large percentage of the drinks bill.

There will also be a prize draw on the night.  One guest will win a very attractive prize from Melia – more details coming soon – and there will be a number of runner up prizes too.  (Please get in touch if your company would like to donate a prize.)

Because we need to ensure that people who ask for tickets turn up, we are charging £15 for tickets.  However, your £15 ticket covers unlimited house wine and beer between 6pm and 8pm.  Soft drinks will also be available.  We are not making a penny from this and indeed Melia Hotels International is footing the bulk of the cost.  After 8pm, the bar will remain open for cash payments for anyone who wants to stay longer.

Tickets will go on sale at 9am on Friday morning – we will publish full details in another article.  We honestly have no idea how popular the event will be but I hope that as many of you as possible can come along to meet Anika and myself and to talk miles, points, credit cards and travel with other readers.  You might even win a prize.

Damn! I’ll be in Vegas that week

    Enjoy!

Would’ve loved to come to this but no way I can make it down to London on that day I’m afraid. Could do with a midlands meet-up!

    Bad News:

Tube drivers are to stage 24-hour strikes on 6 and 7 December, coinciding with a walkout by Southern Rail guards.

The Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) said drivers on the Piccadilly and Hammersmith City lines backed action over a “wholesale breakdown” in industrial relations.

Southern Rail guards are due to walkout on the same days in a row over changes to the role of conductors.

    • Judy says:

Looks like it will only be the Piccadilly plus the Hammersmith & City lines. IF it goes ahead. Southern are nearly always on strike so nothing new there!

Looking forward to it (but where’s the follow up article you mentioned Rob…?)

You got to love London’s public transport…
However Metropolitan line is running and it’s kind of in walking distance from Euston, Warren Street, Regent’s Park and even King’s Cross….
Follow up article is scheduled for tomorrow.

  • Ro says:

Sounds like a cool idea… I’m in. get back from rotterdam the day before so just in time.

    • Ro says:

Also organised a fairly large get to together at this bar back in Jan… excellent choice Rob. Everyone is in for a treat

  • Bobajob67 says:

Hopefully can make it. I plan to be in London that day so just need to juggle some things around. Oh, and get approval from my wife for a late pass. Never mind the avios, brownie points are fast diminishing……

  • Waribai says:

My wife has just encouraged me to go along (slightly worrying!) So I’m in!
