For the last six months or so, Head for Points has been running a ‘world exclusive’ (seriously!) promotion with IHG Rewards Club.

Head for Points readers have received DOUBLE IHG Rewards Club base points when they book their stays via this special page of ihg.com.

All good things must come to an end, however.

The last day to book an IHG stay under this offer is 1st January 2017.  You can book for a future date and will still receive double base points, but no new bookings will be possible after 1st January.

IHG Rewards Club

How does the offer work?

You will receive an extra bonus on every future stay at an InterContinental, Hotel Indigo, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, EVEN, Hualuxe, Staybridge Suites or Candlewood Suites property when booked at a public rate.

Under this promotion you will receive an additional 10 IHG Rewards Club base points for every $1 you spend (an additional 5 points at Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites).

Head for Points is the only site in the world to feature this offer which is the result of the strong relationship that HfP and IHG have built up over the last four years.

Double IHG Rewards Club points Head for Points

How do I earn my double IHG Rewards Club base points?

It is very easy.  All you need to do in ensure that you book your future IHG stays via this special Head for Points landing page on ihg.com.

Please note this very important rule – you MUST click through from this page of Head for Points to the booking page.  Bookmark THIS page – do NOT bookmark the ihg.com landing page.  IHG will not award double points if they do not see that you clicked through directly from Head for Points.

This is how the promotion works:

You must click through from this link to the special HfP booking page on ihg.com to book your stay.  IHG will NOT award double base points if the previous click did not originate at HfP or if the booking was not made via the special HfP landing page.

This offer is not valid if you book using a negotiated corporate rate.

IHG will add the double base points as an account adjustment within two months of your stay.  They will NOT appear at the same time as the standard points from your stay.  (The speed of awarding of double points will slow down a bit after 1st January but they WILL turn up.)

The bonus base points only apply to your accommodation and not to incidental spend such as food and beverage.

The bonus base points will only be given on one room per booking.  You will not receive a bonus on a second room even if it qualifies for base points.

The bonus base points will not count for elite qualifying purposes.

The bonus base points will be based on the standard earning rate of 5 or 10 points per $1.  Any elite status bonus will not be doubled.

The decision of IHG over whether or not to award double base points on any particular booking is final.

I am very grateful to IHG Rewards Club for choosing to make this exclusive offer available to Head for Points readers.

Remember to click here to book your next stay via the special Head for Points landing page on ihg.com and receive double base points.  The last day to book is 1st January 2017.

  • RIcatti says:

Actually, had a problem with this offer, the offer page inserted some IATA travel agency link which IHG Customer Services in Philippines did not recognise and deemed this a travel agency booking.

    Points didn’t credit.

CS on the phone were only able to remove the IATA code and credit IHG points as normal, but no double points.

    • Travel Yoda says:

Always worked fine for me. No issues on 7-8 bookings. All posted. First took a 3-4 weeks but all subsequent only a week give or take a day or two.

    • Rob says:

The IATA number is what triggers the double points. Don’t listen to the call centre! For a start, agency bookings do qualify for points – just not wholesalers like Expedia.

  • Matteo says:

Thank you for this great promotion. It worked fine with me several times this year. I hope you can bring it back to HFP sometime soon!!!

  • mark1980 says:

Do these bookings count for your accelerate target?

  • JamesW says:

I hope that IHG bring this offer back for HFP readers in 2017. It has been a motivator to use IHG rather than their competitors.

  • Kip says:

I have booked four stays under this offer in the last few months and none of them have been credited with bonus points. I only noticed the other day and have contacted IHG so hopefully they will get credited. I assumed it was the IATA code that triggered it and I’m fairly certain that was present every time.

Hope so, because I’ve got several nights at IC in LA coming up which would be useful for double points.

    • John says:

Didn’t Rob say you should contact him if it doesn’t work?

      • Rob says:

Yes, I can get them fixed very quickly. Don’t contact IHG, the Philippines is not involved in this at all – it is all being managed out of the UK office.

  • danksy says:

I will mourn the loss of the double points, I did quite well out of the £2k I spent in thailand last month!

  • Rich says:

Great shame, but grateful while it lasted. I only had a couple of IHG stays, and I would have booked them without the double points, so I can’t complain!

  • Neil Mac says:

This has been a great offer and I have managed to get huge value from it. I’ll be very sorry to see it go, but let’s not forget what a massive deal this is for HFP and all respect due.

FYI I am posting this from my holiday hotel paid for with points awarded under this offer.
