This is my review of the AA FuelSave Credit Card.
Head for Points mainly focuses on credit cards which offer airline miles or hotel loyalty points for your spending. However, it is pointless taking frequent flyer miles if there are better deals available from cashback credit cards such as the AA FuelSave Credit Card.

Key facts: The AA FuelSave credit card has no annual fee for the first 12 months. After 12 months an annual fee of £42 applies, taken as 12 monthly payments of £3.50.
The AA FuelSave credit card has a representative APR of 22.4%, including the fee, based on a notional credit limit of £1,200.
The card is issued by Bank of Ireland UK.
How much cashback do I earn?
The free card, Cashback, pays you back 0.5% of your general spending.
You will also receive:
2% of your fuel spend if your total spending that month is under £500
4% of your fuel spend if your total spending that month is £500 or more
This is a generous package, especially for those with heavy petrol or diesel bills.
How is cashback paid?
Cashback is paid quarterly and is added to your card as a statement credit.
The maximum cashback you can earn is £150 per year.
What other benefits do I get?
You receive FREE AA Breakdown Cover in your first year, followed by a FREE MOT every year you hold the card.
If you are already an AA member you receive a FREE MOT in the first year instead of breakdown cover.
The card is free for the first 12 months, saving you £42.
Conclusion
This is a good value package in the first year, when there is no annual fee and you receive free breakdown cover as well.
Whether you continue with the card after Year 1 will depend on how much cashback you are getting and whether you value the free MOT that you will receive.
If you wanted to switch to a ‘free for life’ cashback card at that point, there are a few available which pay a similar 0.5%. The ASDA Cashback Credit Card is one example.
