If you missed this offer when I wrote about it just before Christmas, or you simply forgot about it in the whirl of the festive season, it isn’t too late.

You still have time to save £15 on your next Amazon order of £25 or more as long as you part-pay with Membership Rewards points.

This offer is open to anyone with a Green, Gold, Platinum or Centurion Amex charge card.  If your account is set to ‘no marketing’ then you won’t have been contacted about it, but you can still take part.

As I wrote in this article here, you can now use your American Express Membership Rewards points to pay for Amazon orders.

The rate is poor – just 0.45p per point.  You are far better off using your points for something more valuable such as airline miles or hotel points.

The process is seamless though.  Once you have linked your Membership Rewards account to your Amazon account, you will be given the option to pay or part-pay with points every time you check out.

There is a little quirk in this deal which lets you maximise the value you get.

This is what you need to do to save £15:

If you have not already done so, link your Membership Rewards account with your Amazon account by visiting this page on the Amazon website

Buy £25 of items on amazon.co.uk (these must all be sold by Amazon and not third party merchants, and excludes digital content, including digital gift cards)

Enter code AMEX16SWP at check out

You MUST select your Membership Rewards-earning Amex card as your payment card (you cannot use gift cards or any other payment source)

Part-pay for your order using Membership Rewards points.  The sneaky option is to redeem just 2 points for a 1p discount.  This saves you ‘wasting’ MR points on a low value redemption.

The offer runs for another few days until 31st January.  It is limited to the first 33,333 people to order but, oddly, the cap does not seem to have been hit so far.

    I know the headline says ALL Amex Gold cards .

    Just to confirm, does this include Business cards as well as personal ones?

    You can use the same Gold card on multiple Amazon a/cs – I used mine on 4 different a/cs & got the items already

    but you can’t open a new Amazon a/c & expect this to work

    I’ve been trying to use my Dads Gold Amex on this since boxing day. He didn’t have an amazon account so I opened one for him (I see above now that won’t have worked). But I’ve just tried again with my mums and an my amazon accounts and everytime I try it just says “The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase.” Its a CD and DVD and both sold diectly by Amazon. Anyone see where I’m going wrong? I tried a live chat on boxing day but they couldn’t help and saod would need to speak on the phone about it, which isn’t much use as my dad knows nothing about using a computer and I doubt they’ll speak to me about it. Thanks

      & you’re definitely using the Amex card for payment & selecting to use at least 1p in MR points as part payment, before entering the code?

      I had the same problem on Sunday but once I had changed the default card to my Gold Amex the promo code went through.

      I had that problem too. The trick is to click on the link that says “change payment card”, even if it has already selected the correct payment card, then select the card and select “use MR points” on THAT page, not on the main checkout page. Then when you go to the main checkout page and add the promo code it should work. Or at least it did for me. Specifying that you want to use MR points on the main checkout page doesn’t work.

    Do I need to select delivery by amazon for it to be fulfilled by amazon. Everything I am looking for seems to by sold by others.

      Fulfilled by Amazon just means that Amazon store the item on behalf of a third party and dispatch it. Item actually needs to be sold by Amazon. Delivery option is irrelevant I believe.

    I’ve just tried with my platinum card buying goods from amazon and it’s saying the promotional code cannot be applied to your purchase. Any ideas?

      I got that first time too. Tried again and it said “code is already applied”. Scrolled up and it was showing at the top as a checked check box.
      Other possibility – are your goods definitely sold by Amazon and not another retailer via Amazon. And have you already linked your AMEX rewards account?

      Almost certainly you tried to buy something that wasn’t sold by Amazon (see the comments from Genghis further up the page). Once loaded, promo codes on Amazon stay on your account until you’ve used them, so it should be there already when you load a valid product into your basket – just like Joe has said above.
