Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

ENDING SOON: £15 off £25 at Amazon for ALL Amex Gold and Platinum holders

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

If you missed this offer when I wrote about it just before Christmas, or you simply forgot about it in the whirl of the festive season, it isn’t too late.

You still have time to save £15 on your next Amazon order of £25 or more as long as you part-pay with Membership Rewards points.

This offer is open to anyone with a Green, Gold, Platinum or Centurion Amex charge card.  If your account is set to ‘no marketing’ then you won’t have been contacted about it, but you can still take part.

As I wrote in this article here, you can now use your American Express Membership Rewards points to pay for Amazon orders.

The rate is poor – just 0.45p per point.  You are far better off using your points for something more valuable such as airline miles or hotel points.

The process is seamless though.  Once you have linked your Membership Rewards account to your Amazon account, you will be given the option to pay or part-pay with points every time you check out.

There is a little quirk in this deal which lets you maximise the value you get.

This is what you need to do to save £15:

If you have not already done so, link your Membership Rewards account with your Amazon account by visiting this page on the Amazon website

Buy £25 of items on amazon.co.uk (these must all be sold by Amazon and not third party merchants, and excludes digital content, including digital gift cards)

Enter code AMEX16SWP at check out

You MUST select your Membership Rewards-earning Amex card as your payment card (you cannot use gift cards or any other payment source)

Part-pay for your order using Membership Rewards points.  The sneaky option is to redeem just 2 points for a 1p discount.  This saves you ‘wasting’ MR points on a low value redemption.

The offer runs for another few days until 31st January.  It is limited to the first 33,333 people to order but, oddly, the cap does not seem to have been hit so far.

  • AndyFox says:

Thanks for bringing this offer to our attention Rob. I have marketing preferences set to on for both myself and my partners gold amex’s but we didn’t receive any news about this offer! Thankfully we have both managed to use the deal towards some upgraded ski gear, so thank you HeadforPoints.

  • Bilal Patel says:

    Thanks. Worked a treat.

  • Sanya Agarwal says:

Does this work for supplementary card holders as well? When I try and link my card it says that you do not have a Rewards Account

    • Genghis says:

      No

      • Sussex bantam says:

        Supplementary worked for me !

        • Genghis says:

Nice. Didn’t work for us before Xmas.

        • Joe says:

How exactly? When I added a Supp Amex card, there was no option to then link it to a Membership Rewards account, so I’m keen to understand how you achieved it. Thanks

        • the real harry1 says:

          I doubt it (supp)

but no fresh Amazon a/cs to try it on! 🙂

          • Sussex Bantam says:

            I’m sure you’re not calling me a liar ! 🙂

We already had two amazon accounts (one for me , one for my wife) and I just linked one to the main card and one to the supp using the normal process. It was very easy – no clever trick to it – maybe I just got lucky ?

          • the real harry1 says:

            of course not

actually the reason my supp card didn’t work was because I had already redeemed the offer with my main card

            I never doubted you 🙂

  • Jeremy says:

Thanks for reminding us of this Rob!

  • Ben E says:

1305 – managed to get it to work still

  • Prince Polo says:

Still working at 13:15. Good deal!

  • Keith says:

Can you use two different Gold cards (with different MR) on same amazon account? Can’t seem to get it working as already did if before xmas with my wife’s PRG card.
