Get £10 off a £50 Amazon order TODAY ONLY – stacks with £15 Amex Membership Rewards code

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

To celebrate being named Britain’s No 1 retailer for consumer satisfaction, Amazon is having a one day sale today. Long term readers may remember that they did a similar deal last year.

You will receive £10 off any order of £50 or more using the code BIGTHANKS.

Gift cards do not count, unfortunately. All items must be sold directly from Amazon and not from one of its partners.

Looking at the comments, this stacks with the American Express Membership Rewards ‘£15 off a £25 purchase’ offer I covered on Wednesday.

Our Amazon link is one of the ways we fund the site.  If you buy something through this offer using the link below, you can consider your HfP subscription for 2017 paid.

The Amazon home page is here.  Full terms and conditions for the offer can be found there.

The offer expires at midnight tonight, Friday.

Sadly it doesn’t work on alcohol so no half-price Talisker today…

    • Rich says:

Ah, that might explain it in my case. It was Campari that I deleted. Legal restriction?

  • Sundar says:

Awesome, used this to get 25 off a Fire 7″ tablet(and some books).
First comment on this site from me, as always a Thousand Thanks Rob for all your guidance and valuable suggestions through this site and the interesting comments that follow through.

OT SPG churn – do you need to wait for the points to transfer to your SPG account before cancelling? (guess same applies for BA Amex)

    • Rob says:

Would be stupidly risky not to wait IMHO

    • Liz says:

You need to wait till the points transfer – we were told you didn’t need to and took us 2 months and lots of phone calls to get them – they couldnt reconnect the link between Amex and BAEC so my husbands points were put in to my new BAPP account.

    • xcalx says:

How long did it take for your referral points to hit the Amex account and was it automatic or was a call required. My card arrived today, very quick delivery.

    • Genghis says:

If it’s still month one, wait until the points have transferred across to your SPG acct and then cancel. All this happens before your first statement is produced and card fee charged. If after month one, it’s costing you more to keep the account open but I’ve always waited to transfer across.

      • rams1981 says:

I’ll have spent the £1k in a few weeks. I will wait, definitely safer.

xcalx: cards arrived Saturday 14th and my Mrs got the points in her account same day.

One thing to note with Amazon is that if an order is split then these discount codes can get split up too.

I used the £15 off £25 before Xmas on some toys, including a play house. After checkout, Amazon do their thing of splitting the order into multiple deliveries and the discount gets apportioned to these deliveries too. Unfortunately the play house I ordered (which ‘swallowed’ over half my £15 discount) then turns out to be out of stock with no confirmed delivery date. Indeed over a month later it has still not been despatched. If I now decide to cancel that part of the order, then I will lose the portion of the discount and never see it again.

    The lesson here:
On Amazon, use discount codes against a single item that you have no intention of returning.

I had a vaguely anxious 3 weeks or so! I ordered a monetizable item at an extremely good price – £37 instead of £69, so £22 to me…

      …only the item wasn’t in stock…

…after 2 weeks Amazon emailed me/us saying it was taking a long time to source the product, would I like to cancel? – I ignored this…

…3 days later they delivered them & the item is back on sale @ £69 @ Amazon (£100 elsewhere) 🙂

  • Frank Kehoe says:

Not working for me, despite linking my amex and amazon prime accounts. I rang amazon and they said I should contact Amex

    • the real harry1 says:

don’t take this wrong way, but highly likely to be user error unless the limit has been reached

-choose to pay with your (say) Gold Amex
-choose to pay mimimum 1p in MR point
      -input code
-redeem, if necessary repeating some of those steps – the discount will show

  • rams1981 says:

OT what is the easiest way to prevent 4800 United miles from expiring?

  • JamesWag says:

How can you enter both codes BIGTHANKS and AMEX16SWP ??

In your article regarding the £15 off £25 you state you must use MR points and enter the code AMEX16SWP.

How can you enter both of the codes to stack the discounts ?

    • Louise says:

On the order page before confirming checkout there is a chance to enter another code

  • vol says:

silly question time again – new to this amazon business, how do I know which products are sold by Amazon and which isn’t? Just tried a purchase with my rewards card and it doesn’t like it very much (error)

    • the real harry1 says:

it says it on the item page, vol

    • Lady London says:

If you click the part at the right hand side of the page once it,’s displaying the full info for your product, where it offers other suppliers or also available from or similar wording it will display a page with every possible vendor of that same product.

Look for each one for if sold by amazon and fulfilled by amazon or just fulfilled by amazon. For most promotions both sold by and fulfilled by must be amazon. This page also let’s you compare shipping costs.
