Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get £50 off £100 Radisson / Park Inn / Park Plaza hotel spend as a BA Amex cardholder

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

American Express has launched a generous Club Carlson (Quorvus Collection, Radisson Blu, Park Inn, Park Plaza) promotion.

You will receive £50 cashback on a £100 spend at a participating hotel before 31st March 2017.

It appears to be aimed at BA Amex cardholders, who should find the deal under the ‘Offers’ section of their online statement.  It may be available to other cardholders and may not be available to all BA Amex cardholders – I am working off a small sample set.

Only 5,000 registrations will be accepted so you should register immediately if you are interested.  Head for Points is more than capable of generating 5,000 registrations on its own, albeit this offer won’t appeal to everyone.

Unfortunately, Amex has messed up the offer.  I’m sure it will be fixed quickly once they read this (!) but for now it is a mess:

The ‘Offers’ page says you get £50 cashback on a £100 spend “at checkout”.  This implies that pre-paid rates do not qualify, but the terms and conditions don’t mention this.

The list of participating hotels is apparently at amexoffers.co.uk/clubcarlson but that link is broken.  It appears that non-UK hotels are included as the rules discuss currency conversion.

It says that bookings must be made at the Club Carlson site or via telephone but this seems unlikely due to the way that these offers are triggered.  It makes no sense that you can’t book via the Radisson site, the Park Inn site or the Park Plaza site.  Even bookings via third party sites such as Expedia may well qualify if you have £100 of incidentals to pay on departure.

Assuming that advance purchase rates do count (and we’re not sure of this), you could tie this offer in with the decent sale currently running at all Club Carlson chains.

It will also work alongside the generous Club Carlson promotion currently running.  This offer 5,000 bonus points per night, which I would value at £15 – £20.

If you have American Express Platinum, remember that you can claim free Gold status in Club Carlson which, if nothing else, will get you additional status bonus points for your stay.

As the offer runs until 31st March, and your plans may not be firm until then, you may want to register just in case.

PS.  The photo above is the funky aquarium in the lobby of the Radisson Blu Berlin.  I’ve no idea if this hotel is included in the offer as the link to participating hotels is broken …..

PPS.  Club Carlson has scrapped its generous 2-4-1 and 4-4-2 deals for elites …. more tomorrow

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Radisson Rewards does not have a dedicated UK credit card. However, you can earn Radisson Rewards points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

These cards earn Membership Rewards points:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:3 into Radisson Rewards points which is a very attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 3 Radisson Rewards points.

Even better, holders of The Platinum Card receive free Radisson Rewards Premium status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Hilton Honors Gold, Marriott Bonvoy Gold and MeliaRewards Gold status.  We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here.

I had it on one of 3 cards…

  • Alan says:

Really OT I’m afraid. Couple of quick questions about Amex MR and Avios. Is there a minimum number of points you can transfer between Iberia Avios and BA Executive Club? Secondly, can you transfer an odd number of points from MR to loyalty accounts or does it have to be in multiples of 1000? If it is in multiples, what do other people do with the odd left over? Thanks. Actually, I guess that’s 3 questions. Cheers

    • Genghis says:

Hi Alan. Transfers between avios currency accounts, BAEC->IB+->avios.com etc can be any amount. Amex MR->BAEC/IB+ is min 1k then increments of 500 IIRC. I try to ‘level off’ to an increment amount and then send any excess to Nectar (no minimum or increments). Hope this helps.

      • Alan says:

Brilliant, thanks Genghis. Your help, as always, is much appreciated. I intend to transfer 1000 into Iberia (to keep it active) and move it across to BA and then the rest will go to Virgin Miles as we’ve decide that is the best fit for us at the moment. Time to cancel the card to rinse in 6 months time! Cheers

        • John says:

The odd amounts can also go to Club Carlson

          • RussellH says:

Very odd amounts – minimum transfer is 3 MR points -> 9 Club Carlsson points. good for keeping your account alive, I would think.

  • Philip says:

Not available on my Amex Platinum Charge or Credit Cards.

Annoying about the 2-4-1 disappearing, I had a good arrangement at the Rad Blu EMA. One night in a standard room at weekends cost £79, invariably got the 2nd night free, got upgraded to business class which meant free breakfast each for my wife and I, 1 free bottle of Beck’s and a small wine each night, 6 Nespresso coffee capsules per night and a free news paper each morning. Plus a 15% bar discount and a pool to chill out in.

Not bad for £79. Probably done they 12 times in 2 years… Though I see why it might not have been sustainable.

    • David says:

Indeed. Not on my plat – why are they giving it to BA Amex holders, it is plat holders who have had a perk devaluation with their loss of the two for one.

  • Clive says:

I assume an existing reservation using the 241 will still be okay…?

  • JayZio says:

Not too thrilled about this one Rob?

“Head for Points is more than capable of generating 5,000 registrations on its own, albeit this offer won’t appeal to anyone.”

  • Niall Sheridan says:

No sign of this on my Gold or BA AMEX, d’oh!

  • Roger I says:

I added this to my BAPP card yesterday, before I saw Rob’s post today. The links were not working, so I’m treating this as a ‘just in case’ offer. Over 24 hours later, the links are still not working.

My next Club Carlson stay is at Oslo in about 5 weeks. The offer could/could not be useful for incidentals. Will it qualify? I’m not going to bother try Bum promo.ing unless CC/AX can sort out their IT.

    • Roger I says:

Oo er. ‘ bother try Bum promo.ing’ should read ‘bother trying. Bum promo.’

  • James says:

Not showing for me on BA PP Amex
