Club Carlson scraps its generous 2-4-1 and 4-4-2 weekend deals

Club Carlson has scrapped its very generous ‘two for one’ and ‘four for two’ deals that are offered to Club Carlson Gold members.  This is for stays at Radisson, Park Inn and Park Plaza properties.

A lot of readers benefited from this deal because Club Carlson Gold status is a benefit of the American Express Platinum card which a lot of Head for Points readers hold.

The loss of this deal removes one of the best deals for good value weekend breaks around Europe and the Middle East.

The 2-4-1 deal worked like this:

Pay for Thursday night, get Friday night FREE

Pay for Friday night, get Saturday night FREE

The 4-4-2 deal worked like this:

Pay for Wednesday and Thursday, get Friday and Saturday FREE

Pay for Thursday and Friday, get Saturday and Sunday FREE

It was a pretty idiot-proof deal booked through the special links on the Club Carlson website.  One Gold member could book up to 2 rooms, so it also worked OK if you needed a 2nd room for family or friends.

Not all hotels offer this, and availability varies depending on how busy they are.  To be honest, availability had got a lot harder to find but with so many Club Carlson hotels in cities such as London you could usually find something.  Last time I ran the numbers, for Berlin in January 2016, five of their eight hotels offered it for a random weekend I tried.

I used it once, in Riga, with an excellent result.  This would have been a decade ago which shows how long this deal has been running.  Not only did I get two nights for the price of one, but the hotel upgraded me to a Business Class room because of my Gold card.  This meant I got free mini-bar, free pay TV and free breakfast as well.  I think my total bill was around £40.

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Radisson Rewards does not have a dedicated UK credit card. However, you can earn Radisson Rewards points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

These cards earn Membership Rewards points:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:3 into Radisson Rewards points which is a very attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 3 Radisson Rewards points.

Even better, holders of The Platinum Card receive free Radisson Rewards Premium status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Hilton Honors Gold, Marriott Bonvoy Gold and MeliaRewards Gold status.  We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here.

Does anyone know if £50 off £100 spend Club Carlson Amex offer works for the prepaid rates? I’m sorry for asking if someone has already confirmed it but I couldn’t see any comments to that effect from Rob’s article a few days ago.

      I have a question on this too;
Has anyone had an experience of the £50 posting when you booked through 3rd party website?
I have a room in Dublin booked , but I booked it on hotels.com. I will be paying there on my BA card , so hoping it will post.
I am not a member of Club C , and I don’t really want to start another loyalty scheme . I prefer to keep my hotel use to IHG and hotels.com. but obviously £50 cash back is a too good deal to miss. Im thinking It should still post right?
other option is to join and book through club c as t&C suggest. I could sign up to the 5000point offer also and net 8000 in total for the stay- but what would that get me?
I can get a status match on my ihg spire so 8000 points is calculated at the higher rate.

      • Rob says:

Logically, despite Amex’s rules, if the hotel is on the participating list and you pay at check out you should be ok. It might not happen but I would be happy doing the same thing.

        • Barry cutters says:

That’s what I’m thinking . If it doesnt work I still have time to get the bonus somewhere else .
Will feedback what happens when iv done it. Stay is next week.

Going back to points thing- what would 8000 get me ? Any real use?

          • Rob says:

8000 Carlson is worth about £25 but you can’t, in itself, get anything for 8000. Cheapest redemptions are 9000 points for some Park Inn hotels. Easy to top up with Amex points at 1:3 though. ‘Cash and Points’ rewards can be decent value too.

  • sarahluv says:

don’t feel as bad about missing out on gold this year. silver will do fine!
