Club Carlson scraps its generous 2-4-1 and 4-4-2 weekend deals

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Club Carlson has scrapped its very generous ‘two for one’ and ‘four for two’ deals that are offered to Club Carlson Gold members.  This is for stays at Radisson, Park Inn and Park Plaza properties.

A lot of readers benefited from this deal because Club Carlson Gold status is a benefit of the American Express Platinum card which a lot of Head for Points readers hold.

The loss of this deal removes one of the best deals for good value weekend breaks around Europe and the Middle East.

The 2-4-1 deal worked like this:

Pay for Thursday night, get Friday night FREE

Pay for Friday night, get Saturday night FREE

The 4-4-2 deal worked like this:

Pay for Wednesday and Thursday, get Friday and Saturday FREE

Pay for Thursday and Friday, get Saturday and Sunday FREE

It was a pretty idiot-proof deal booked through the special links on the Club Carlson website.  One Gold member could book up to 2 rooms, so it also worked OK if you needed a 2nd room for family or friends.

Not all hotels offer this, and availability varies depending on how busy they are.  To be honest, availability had got a lot harder to find but with so many Club Carlson hotels in cities such as London you could usually find something.  Last time I ran the numbers, for Berlin in January 2016, five of their eight hotels offered it for a random weekend I tried.

I used it once, in Riga, with an excellent result.  This would have been a decade ago which shows how long this deal has been running.  Not only did I get two nights for the price of one, but the hotel upgraded me to a Business Class room because of my Gold card.  This meant I got free mini-bar, free pay TV and free breakfast as well.  I think my total bill was around £40.

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Radisson Rewards does not have a dedicated UK credit card. However, you can earn Radisson Rewards points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

These cards earn Membership Rewards points:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:3 into Radisson Rewards points which is a very attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 3 Radisson Rewards points.

Even better, holders of The Platinum Card receive free Radisson Rewards Premium status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Hilton Honors Gold, Marriott Bonvoy Gold and MeliaRewards Gold status.  We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here.

In case anyone was concerned about any existing bookings made using this offer,

    From Club Carlson :

“Yes, all existing reservations will be honored. If you try to
adjust/change the dates of these stays, the “Weekend Extend” rate will
not transfer over to the new dates.”

That’s sad, for a long time I counted Carlson as one of the best programs b/c of this.
To be honest, I’m not sure they are worth bothering with without it in Europe, their coverage is still too patchy to be worth putting time into.

Such a shame, made outstanding value out of it on more than one occasion.

The £50 off £100 offer for Club Carlson just popped up on my BA Amex this morning. I checked earlier in the week when it was mentioned on HFP and it wasn’t there. Perfect timing as I have a 241 in March, happy days. This was my first, and now last, 241 booking 🙁

  • Zee says:

Do you know if previously made bookings will be honoured? I have booked 2 stays in June with this promo.

  • Travel Yoda says:

OT (but hotel related). Has any had IHG HFP Double points for stays booked just before the end but for this year. Had a week in Jan booked 29th Dec. But not seen anything coming through yet.

    • Rob says:

You will get them but they are now saying it could be 2 months. If it has been, say, 6 weeks from check out drop me an email.

  • Kilburnflyer says:

Real shame to see these go. Currently at Radisson Blu Amsterdam on 2for1 rate which worked out at €99/night (bargain!), even got an upgrade to Business Room with my Gold status (although no breakfast inc, as upgrade wasn’t paid for they said).

I hope that they might replace the offer with some other form of rate discount for elite members. Not holding my breath though…
