  • Nigel says:

Has anybody received their 13200 Economist avios?

  • Amtexfly says:

Can the Marriot bonus be claimed retrospectively? I stayed at one a couple of weeks ago and totally forgot to sign up to the reward programme.

    • Brian says:

Apparently, you can be referred for the Marriott programme to get bonus points on your first stays, so contact Rob for a referral if you do sign up.

  • Brian says:

Does anybody know if the BA triple miles should be credited along with the normal miles, or later? I haven’t received mine yet, so was wondering if I should chase them up. Thanks.

  • Paul says:

Rob — OT but the latest set of video-based ads in the sidebar seem to be doing the trick of automatically scrolling the page down in Safari on Mac again… 🙁

    • Rob says:

That is very odd because those are ‘normal’ Google-served ads.

  • Roger says:

    OT- Virtual or Physical MC/Visa

Can anyone think of a way to buy a prepaid MC/Visa using Amex (which gets treated as purchase not cash advance)?
This can then be used at places which does not take Amex, particularly places like Utilities, Council tax etc.

    • mark2 says:

You can often pay Council Tax through the Coop using PayPoint; look on the back of your bill. Our council sent me a special card but others have talked of just taking the bill in.
I doubt that anyone would answer the first part as it would be unintended and would be stopped if too many people used it.

    • Brian says:

You can buy them at Tesco/Morrison’s/Sainsbury’s etc. But there is a hefty fee, so I’m not sure it’s worth it. The best deal currently would be to buy them at Morrison’s – £3.95 fee for £100, but that’s offset by 2.5% back in Morrison’s points. Still hardly worth it, though.

  • Nick_C says:

Yep. Some good earning opportunities. Eg. 20/£ with Holland & Barrett and 10/£ with Tesco Wine.

  • Liz says:

OT: Does paying off your mortgage adversely affect your credit score? Our first free Barclaycard Experian score since paying off our mortgage in Dec has taken a nose dive down into the ‘Good’ section from a high ‘Excellent’ score previously. That’s the only big change we have done. Is it likely to bounce back up.

    • Cate says:

What lenders are looking for is are you good for the money. The fewer outgoings on credit you have the less likely you are to look good for the money. Not having a mortgage could be construed in many ways.

    • Nick M says:

One of the factors that affects your score is the average time you’ve had your accounts… I’m guessing that you’ve held the mortgage for a reasonable length of time?
