News in brief:

Double Avios on BA’s regional weekend routes

British Airways is offering double Avios points on its weekend services operated from regional airports.  These are the flights which use the London City Airport fleet of Embraer aircraft whilst City is closed over the weekend.

As a reminder, the routes are:

Manchester – Malaga, Alicante, Ibiza, London City, Mykonos, Nice, Palma Majorca
Bristol – Malaga, Florence, Ibiza, Palma Majorca
Birmingham – Malaga, Florence, Ibiza, Palma Majorca
London Stansted – Florence, Geneva, Nice, Milan Linate, Ibiza, Faro, Malaga, Palma Majorca
Edinburgh – Palma Majorca
Dublin – Ibiza

You will earn double Avios when you book a flight on any of these routes by 12th June for travel before 25th November.  Not all of these routes will be operating until the end of November, however.

You MUST register to receive double Avios.  Go to this page of ba.com and click on the relevant link – it will bring up a pop-up box which contains a ‘Register Now’ button.

Personally, I’d like to see BA try a ‘double tier points’ offer.  Let’s be honest – double Avios isn’t going to excite anyone given the small number of points earned on economy flights these days.  Offering double tier points would drive a decent number of genuinely incremental Club Europe bookings from people chasing Silver or Gold status.

Buy the contents of Heathrow Terminal 1

Fathers Day is on the way.  And what better present for an aviation loving parent than a souvenir from Heathrow Terminal 1, currently part-way through demolition?

How about his very own check-in desk?  There are 110 to choose from.  Perhaps he’d like his own baggage drop system?  Fast Track Security Entry gates and desks may prove handy when the kids bring all their friends round, as may a Blast Mitigation Glass Partition.  Perhaps his very own travellator (choice of 8) would be a thoughtful gift, laid out between the house and the shed?

Whatever you’re thinking of, Heathrow Terminal 1 can help.  The sales brochure is here and you can find more details on the sale here.

Some of these routes are already SH+ earning 80TPs each way including MAN/AGP. Not bad when a CE return can be had for a little over £200.

    • william merrett says:

Thank you for that tip, helps me to get in a few extra TP’s on the way to GGL. Turnarounds in malaga are reported to be a breeze too. Managed to combine with an amex travel £50 off £200 offer to bring it down to £1 per TP by nesting turnarounds 🙂

  • Michael says:

I can buy my very own airbridge! Do they deliver? 🙂

    • Genghis says:

“Full Relocation Services Available” 🙂 not sure if I’m being stupid but how do we actually buy the stuff? The ‘view and bid’ on the website says coming soon with no indication of when it might open. Some of he signs might be pretty cool for our house / shed but not too sure what Mrs G might think

  • Frankie says:

Slightly OT, but still a bit, and related to Tier points…. I became silver yesterday and am now able to select seats for free for a CW flight to Phoenix in September booked by me using my Amex 2 for 1. However, I’m not able to select seats for free for a CW flight in April booked using my partner’s Amex 2 for 1. Is that correct? I can only get the free seat selection if I am the person who made the booking, even though I’m now silver and on another booking?

    • CV3V says:

Doesnt sound right, i can apply my Air Belin FF number to any booking i am on (even when made by others), and get seat selection for both seats. Double check your FF number is in the booking.

    • RIcatti says:

Remove BAEC number from the booking (use other airline’s website or call BA).

Insert the same BAEC number in the booking. Then booking will pull your Silver status.

I always harboured the desire to sit on the luggage belt as it went round. This could be my chance.

  • James says:

Perhaps it doesnt include all of the weekend E190 routes. Just spotted that STN-TXL is missing.

  • Chris P says:

Does anyone know if I could take the Fast Track Security Gates as hand luggage – would be handy in the future when I travel Economy.
Gutted about the escalator – just paid a fortune for a Stannah for my aged mum – that would have had much more character. Happy Bidding!!

    • Lady London says:

There is at least one company offering Stannah type stairlift on a rental basis, not just purchase. If we’d needed a Stannah for someone a few years back we looked into it, decided we’d rent not buy if one turned out to be needed.

if you do the sums rental may work out better if maintenance etc. is included.

  • Paul says:

Clearly BA regional services failing faster than its other routes. Wonder how long it will fe before there are avios incentives across the board. Given my experience at First checking an hour ago it’s going to have to be spectacular to get me on a long haul flight ever again. It was my last day as a gold card holder and frankly good riddance.
