50% bonus on Heathrow Rewards transfers to Miles & More – sign-up promo worth 4,500 miles

Heathrow Rewards, the loyalty scheme for shopping at Heathrow, has launched a 50% bonus on transfers to Lufthansa’s Miles & More scheme.

Heathrow Rewards gives you 1 point for every £1 spent in Heathrow (1 per £10 on foreign exchange) or on Heathrow Express tickets (online bookings only). Once you’ve earned 250 points you can exchange them for miles or shopping vouchers.

The offer will go live today.  If you can’t see it when you log in (it will be clearly flagged on the Miles & More transfer page) then take another look later.

Heathrow Rewards

This offer ONLY applies to Miles & More and does not apply to:

British Airways / Aer Lingus / Avios

Emirates Skywards

Etihad Guest

Virgin Flying Club

The bonus applies to all transfers to Miles & More made before 31st August, so you have plenty of time to earn some points this month and still benefit.

Miles & More miles are relatively tricky to pick up if you live in the UK – and you cannot buy miles directly from Lufthansa – so this is a good opportunity.

This is why the deal is especially interesting:

You can currently earn 3,000 Heathrow Rewards points by opening an account and spending £150 in one day.

This is a very generous offer – as good as it has ever got with Heathrow Rewards.

You can combine these two deals as long as you do your qualifying spend in the next 3 weeks or so.

Open a Heathrow Rewards account, spend £150 in a day and you will receive your 3,000 points.  Convert these to Miles & More and you will receive 4,500 miles.

The link to the 3,000 point sign-up offer is on the avios.com website here.  Whilst the deal is being promoted by Avios, there is no requirement to send the bonus points there – you are totally fine to transfer the points to Miles & More and get the 50% bonus.

Remember that Heathrow Rewards accounts are restricted to one per household so you cannot open another for your partner at the same address.

Whilst the offer may be generous you do need to consider how expensive goods and services are at Heathrow. I have noticed a huge increase in the price of some brands of alcohol for example and it is often cheaper to buy from Tesco!
An example from yesterday is Baron Otard Cognac. 1 litre at LHR is £60.99. Amazon grocery will sell you 70cl bottle at an equivalent price of £45 a litre and send it to you home for free!
Rip of charges for parking and in particular the outrageous cost to pick someone up at T5 also adds to the feeling that rip off LHR has moved to a whole new level.

£50 gift card from WH Smith is still worth £50 though 😉

      • Rob says:

Duty Free from World Duty Free has always been a bad deal. On the other hand, one benefit of filling T5 with designer shops is that these places rarely discount outside sales – and the sales are just for seasonal stuff – so you do save.

      • Andrew says:

As long as it wasn’t a £50 WH Smith Gift Card from WH Smith. It would be expired before I found anything worth buying!

The eye-opener for me at Heathrow and other Airports is the humble Toblerone. A 150g Toblerone is £1 in stores like Poundland, Poundworld and B&M (albeit perhaps not the typical preferred retailer for the HfP reader) – that’s 66p per 100g.

        A 360g bar at WDF is £4 or 111p per 100g

Even the three x 360g for £10 offer works out at 92p per 100g

        • AVM says:

How about 150£ Waitrose/John Lewis or Boots gift card? Or any other gift card they sell over there?

        • Rob says:

There is no duty on Toblerone of course, only VAT!

          • the real harry1 says:

            play the other one 🙂

duty free is normally taken to mean VAT- & tariff-free, not that it means anything in EU anyway

        • Anna says:

Poundworld is awesome – a bargain is a bargain, whether it’s a £1 Toblerone or CW for the price of WT!

    • john says:

Jo Malone candles are cheaper. Their standard 200g are £44 on high street, £34.95 at T5 (even if flying to Europe). Significantly cheaper, particularly when you are buying 8 for wedding gifts! I’d recommend the Heathrow Shopping reservation service also.

      • john says:

Although one bridesmaid had hers taken away by security from hand luggage at LHR T2 on her way back to the states! Somewhat ironic since it was originally bought airside at LHR and it left Italy fine in hand luggage!

    • D says:

Two hours free parking at long stay T5 to collect people if that helps. They just take the free bus to the car park.

  • Rob says:

    Good spot.

  • Simon says:

Supposing 🙂 you have 3 x Heathrow Rewards accounts already — one of which has already sent points to a Miles & More account in the past — would you still be able to open a new HR account [using a different email account BUT having to use the same given and surnames], take advantage of the above 3,000 point offer, and then make a transfer to M&M? My hunch is no, but would enjoy being contradicted. 🙂

On a separate tack, the Rocketmiles/Heathrow Rewards tie-up may prove useful here if you can get quick stay in, especially as M&M miles seem harder to come by in the UK. Just a thought.

    • Rob says:

M&M is offering 5000 miles for first-time users of its hotel booking site again. We are staying on this deal tomorrow (non chain hotel so no benefits lost) – 2 rooms, 1 in each name, so 10k between us.
