If you have a Lufthansa / SWISS account, Miles & More – the Lufthansa, SWISS etc programme – gives you 500 bonus miles for downloading their app and logging in for the first time.

500 Miles & More miles won’t get you a ticket in Lufthansa First Class, but they will get you a tiny bit closer.

How to get the 500 bonus Miles & More miles

The offer is outlined on the Miles & More website here.

Once downloaded, enter your login details and the 500 bonus miles will show immediately in your account. That’s it.

500 free lufthansa miles and more miles

My last review of Lufthansa First Class service, from Frankfurt to New York, is here – although you’ll need another 90,500 miles on top of these 500 free miles to redeem for that.

The best value Miles & More redemption for a UK resident is probably Business Class to the Middle East, which is just 70,000 miles return.  Remember that Avios wants 100,000 to 120,000 points for a similar UK to Middle East flight.

Full details of the 500 miles offer are on the Miles & More website here.

No news yet on a new Lufthansa credit card? Those 500 miles will just expire otherwise…

I thought I’d be the first to ask this question !

Rob has stated since late in the summer that he doesn’t think there’s going to be another Lufthansa credit card, and thus no way of protecting Miles & Miles from Lufthansa’s hard policy of all of them expire 36 months after they’ve been credited to an account. This policy essentially alienates a large number of people since only those who use lots of Lufthansa flights and those who have access to a credit card of theirs issued in say Germany which can Miles & More would really benefit from the program, everyone else wouldn’t be able to earn enough within the 36 months to get a redemption flight or their choice, and or not need or want to travel before their Miles & More expire.

The better choice would be is take out another Star Alliance member’s scheme to earn for all Star Alliance flights !

There are M&M credit cards in most western European countries and USA.
So Lufthansa would presumably like there to be one in the UK.
It’s a question of there being a finance provider who can offer something attractive enough to be worthwhile, but not vulnerable to HfPers gaming them.
Perhaps they will relaunch with just the change that Rob suggested – significant earning on the uncapped Diners Card and much lower earning on the Mastercard.

        • Rob says:

It won’t have a Diners element. It was clear that only Cornercard would be involved, with Affiniture (who did the Diners element) having nothing to do with it. Cornercard issues M&M cards in Switzerland so has form.

    Yeah, nah…

I’m never going to bother chasing M&M miles ever again. All the way through the pandemic I’ve had status extensions and pauses on point/mile expiration from EVERY SINGLE LOYALTY PROGRAMME EXCEPT MILES & MORE.

Instead, M&M have subjected me to an email every couple of months over the last 18 months letting me know they are about to expire another massive chunk of miles.

I was slightly startled to log into MeliaRewards the other day and see I was within a couple of weeks of losing all my points through no usage – they have a hard 1 year expiry. I guess my last usage was buying some with last year’s Amazon promotion – Melia seems to have disappeared from Amazon currently. Plus Prime Day was brought forward in 2021, and with pandemic/ no activity it slipped my mind. Easily sorted with a EUR 5 purchase to give another 12 months’ expiry, though easily forgotten as well.
