News in brief:

Hilton Honors losing four car rental partners

I’m not sure how many people credit car rentals to a hotel loyalty programme but – now that Avios is working exclusively with Avis and Budget – it is an OK route if you find yourself using a different company.

Hilton Honors is now working exclusively with Alamo, Enterprise and National.  This means:

Sixt rentals no longer earn Hilton points, although bookings prior to 31st July for completion by 31st December will be honoured

Europcar rentals no longer earn Hilton points, although bookings prior to 31st July for completion by 31st December will be honoured

Avis and Budget rentals no longer earn Hilton points from 31st August, although bookings made by that date for completion by 31st December will be honoured

Details of these changes can be found on the Hilton website here.

Hilton related – diamond members (all of us right!) has anyone had experience of booking say a 3 night stay first night paid suite, next 2 nights redemption or paid basic room. Would they keep you or make you move?

    • johnny_c-l says:

It depends on the property, I’ve been allowed to stay in the same room before, plus have had an occasion when I was moved. However this was a deluxe/standard combination, not with a suite.

If you want to be sure, there’s no harm in getting in touch with the hotel to arrange beforehand (or at least it puts you top of the list for keeping a nice room).

I had two nights recently, first night my booking diamond member upgraded to junior suite and second night was the wife’s free Hilton night from barclaycard. Lady on front desk said she put the bookings together and we could just stay where we were. Conrad London.

O/T I have a booking for New York for a brand new Hilton hotel which was scheduled to be open 1 day before my booking. It is the HGI NYC Financial Center/Manhattan Downtown. Hilton website has changed and is now only accepting bookings one month after I am due to stay. I have a feeling the hotel is not going to be open in time for my booking. I have a non refundable paid booking for 3 nights. I am going to contact Hilton as I don’t want to arrive not knowing whats happening and potentially being moved to a cra**y hotel. What’s the best way to proceed if they come back and say it won’t be open in time? I don’t really want a refund, rates are pretty high just now if I need to rebook as it’s only 3 weeks until I go. I am Hilton Diamond if that helps……

    • Rob says:

History shows you get moved to another hotel. As a Diamond you should be ok. This may be preferable to going to an unfinished hotel with no restaurant yet open, only half rooms done, untrained staff etc.

      • h1tvd says:

just phoned hilton, they refused to change the hotel, just refunded the prepaid rate

        • Nick says:

… because you insisted it be done on your timescale. If you’d waited till they’d put a policy in place there’s a decent chance you’d have been moved to a different hotel instead.

Possibly buried in comments elsewhere, but BA flights to Tennessee are now confirmed for May 2018 onwards (according to their Instagram)

  • Cate says:

The Hilton deal is a loss for us, but the AMEX 2MR per £1 spent with airlines will make up for it as I can convert 2MR points to four Hilton points in the current offer for car hire or, 3MR points if I hire through AMEX online travel = nine points per £1……I think…. Actually if I buy with our Barclays Hilton card I should get another 2 points per pound.

    • Genghis says:

I think you might have got a bit too excited. Don’t you need to use Amex Gold to pay for the car hire, thereby getting the 3MRs/£ and hence cannot use Hilton Barclaycard?

  • Alex W says:

I’ve done various enterprise rentals with work and not credited these anywhere – Hilton will do nicely, unless theres a better option?

Trouble is I’ve scoured the Hilton website and can’t find how to credit Enterprise rentals – any tips on how to do this?

  • ZeroHedge says:

So I downloaded the app and the 500 points credited within seconds…

I also signed up for the newsletter, clicked the link in my email, and got a confirmation email in return. 2 hours later, still no sign of the 2nd 500 miles…

    Anyone else having trouble ?
