You can read my review of my visit to Muse here and Rob’s review of Sting and Paul Simon here.

The SPG Suite is fully catered and is a very relaxed place to catch the music, although it is fair to say that if you want to jump around and sing along you would be better off down on the floor of the arena.

You can also get 10,000 Starwood points as a sign-up bonus for getting the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express card. I review the Starwood Amex here.  You can also transfer Marriott Rewards points into SPG at the rate of 3:1.

Go on Anika, share your top 6! 🙂

    • Rob says:

Personally, I thought it was a pretty bad list! Normally I jump in and book before we publish the list, but there was nothing here that got me excited. But I’m old, of course.

I have seen The Killers live and it is an excellent show, but when I saw them it was paid for by Deutsche Bank and there were only 500 people there. Not sure I want to see them again with 20,000 there!

Sorry off starting OT and also if it’s been answered before. Is there a maximum permitted duration between the outbound and inbound legs of a 2 4 1 redemption? (e.g. if you were going abroad for several months and called BA near to your return date to add the return leg?).

    • Rob says:

You can’t add the return once you’ve flown the outbound.

You CAN change the date on a return (but not cancel it) after you’ve flown out.

The solution is therefore to book a random return date at the time of booking the outbound, or at least before you fly the outbound, and then ring BA to change the date (assuming availability is there) when you decided you’re coming home.

Really good evening at O2 with moments, saw Foo Fighters Tuesday great night

    • Macca says:

SPG Suite is an amazing redemption. We saw Bruno Mars and had a great time. Point for point it is easily the best and most fun redemption I’ve ever made.

The hosts were fantastic. There were only 10 guests in the suite, and I was the only one wanting to drink Whisky. The hosts humorous response… “I’ll go down to the store and get you a bottle but I guess you’ve got to drink the whole thing yourself then…” The moment our glasses emptied the host was there asking if we wanted another. I wished I’d said no a couple of times!!!

My wife was quite happy to dance her feet off at the front of the suite, it was not a stuck up experience and there was no judgement from anyone there. Even the host was subtly dancing away when she thought no one was looking.

There were three hot dishes including a vegetarian one. And the host even went and spoke to catering to get us something else veggie, but I can’t remember what unfortunately – probably chips knowing my northern wife 🙂

And of course the Intercontinental o2 is a 5 min walk away if you have spare points to spend there, and a lot cheaper than similar top end hotels in the centre.

We will be doing the SPG suite again and again, but unfortunately these midweek dates just don’t work for us this time around. I highly recommend it to everyone though.

      • Alex W says:

Is it really good value? 15 or 20k points sounds like a lot when I am aiming to get 3p per point via Marriott travel package! If I had loads of points I would love to go for the Killers or something, but not at the expense of my travel package!

        • Rob says:

A travel package is out of reach for many people, and others don’t want a 7 night stay in the same hotel.

          • Alex W says:

Fair point, I’m the same myself but a week in one hotel is exactly what Mrs W wants!

I initially thought the same about it being out of reach, but 2 x Amex Plats and 2 x SPG Amex and you’re pretty much there.

        • Macca says:

We are lucky enough to be able to afford decent holidays anyway so it is far more valuable to us to use points for money-can’t-buy experiences like the SPG Suite and McClaren factory tours. Naturally people will have different targets for their points but I don’t think anyone would be disappointed with the value of this redemption option.

      • Rob says:

I think I know the host you are talking about!

        • Macca says:

The host was Poppy. It was her first day when we attended Bruno Mars. I don’t know what the staff turnover is like for these positions but she was absolutely excellent and couldn’t have done anything more, so I hope she is there next time we get the chance 🙂

  • Barry cutters says:

Never collected anything in this scheme before , are those prices for the tickets and dog suite , or just the tickets only

  • James says:

    Totally off topic sorry!

Heading to premium plaza at Heathrow T2 tonight – I have Amex Platinum with PriorityPass, 3 of us going and one is my brother with the same initials as me on my platinum card.
Would it be possible for me and 1 guest to enter on the PP and then my brother on my amex?

    Cheers

  • Chelseafi says:

See the reviews linked above, suite opens from 6.30pm Foo Fighters went on from around 8 until 11.45 (and on a school night) food very good and our host kept topping up our wine every five mins!

  • rtid says:

O/T – I have recently upgraded from Amex Gold to Platinum using the URL.
    I know welcome bonuses aren’t possible when holding Gold and Plat so the scenario is…My wife also has Amex Gold I am thinking either;

    1. Get her to upgrade using the link to Platinum (get 20k points for £1k spend).
    or
    2. Can I refer her, get 18k points myself from the referral then she can just cancel the Plat card to avoid her also having to spend £1k?

    Any thoughts are appreciated!

  • Liz says:

OT: Does food and beverage spend at a Hampton Inn paid for as a reward night earn HH points. I can’t find it in the T&Cs. HIlton have said it doesn’t qualify – it was only a small spend so not many points involved.
