News in brief:

New Qatar Airways business class deals – TODAY ONLY

Qatar Airways launched another (yes, another) business class sale yesterday.

The UK sale fares are here and are OK but nothing to get excited about.  This runs until Friday.

Things are better in Europe but in Europe it is a 48-hour sale which ends TODAY.  Digging around, these appear to be the highlights from elsewhere in Europe:

Berlin to Cape Town €1,991  (more German deals here)

Berlin to Chiang Mai €1,749

Brussels to Bali €1,671 (more Belgian deals here)

Brussels to Delhi €1,889

Brussels to Johannesburg €2,144

Frankfurt to Windhoek €1,473

Prague to Bangkok 32,896 CZK (£1,108)  (more Czech deals here)

Sofia to Singapore 2,299 BGN (£1,030)  (more Bulgarian deals here)

Sarajevo to Kuala Lumpur €1092

Sarajevo to Guangzhou €954

Stockholm to Sydney or Melbourne 18,157 SEK (£1,660)  (more Sweden deals here)

Stockholm to Singapore 13,206 SEK (£1,207)

These flights are for travel by 28th February.  You cannot travel between 15th December and 10th January.

Note that some of these destination, eg Sarajevo, involve a short-haul A320 to Doha, albeit with a ‘proper’ business class seat.

Most of these deals will earn 560 British Airways tier points (4 x 140 given the plane change in Doha) as each leg is over 2,000 miles.  That is 90% of the 600 required for a British Airways Silver card, albeit you also need to fly 4 BA flights in your membership year.  Australasia routes earn 600 tier points.

You will also earn a huge chunk of Avios back too.

  • Optimus Prime says:

I guess that when potentially booking my repositioning flights I would need to allow at least 3 hours to collect my luggage and check it in with Qatar?

Have found a good deal that would land 2 hours prior Qatar departure. Seems pretty tight to go through passport control, wait for bags and run to check-in desk (and this is assuming not terminal change needed).

    • John says:

I always go day before, but if you have a plan B which you are happy to pay for then you can take the risk

But so far every time I would have made it even with 1 hour connecting

    • Polly says:

Def would not risk that close a connection. Def either go day before or in am for late pm qr. Only time ever risked same day was cph mid morning..stored bags..into town on tube..back out that night to airport. And l was still anxious!

  • Tom C says:

Do you happen to know the effort (or even if it can be) upgraded to First using miles?

  • Trinovant says:

OT: best Avios earning for petrol. Buy at Tesco and pay using Tesco debit card. 2 points (4.4 Avios) per pound. No need to scan Tesco credit card and pay with ba Amex.

    • Trinovant says:

      …4.8 Avios per pound.

    • MarkH says:

Had a look at the Tesco account but annoyingly you need 3 DDs a month to earn interest. Might just get it and transfer small amounts to it for my food and petrol as I’m in there all the time.

      • JamesB says:

You need to pay in £1000/month Mark but it does not need to stay there.

        • MarkH says:

Thought it was £750 and 3DDs? Moving cash in and out of the account isn’t a problem but I just don’t have enough payments each month as I have a couple of santander 1-2-3 accounts that also require DDs

          • JamesB says:

Could be, I’ve been putting £1000 into mine but might have mixed it up with another account. At launch on here some readers indicated they were setting up small charity donations to meet the 3xDD.

          • Genghis says:

I pay 2 DDs to Tesco savings and my very tiny mobile phone bill to get the 3% interest but I think T&Cs have changed

      • Alan says:

Yeah, def worth pouncing on any good deals – I managed to snag 2x 3% accounts with no payment in/DD requirements 😉

  • Gulz says:

Anyone mind sharing the OfferId for the Esso offer please?

    • the real harry1 says:

I can share it but not on a public board, you’d need to stick up an email address or your HUKD ID would work

(we sort of decided not to stick the offerIDs on HFP)

though I tried it earlier & it didn’t work Gold—>Blue

  • Crispbag says:

O/T I am right in thinking that Avios are taken at the time of booking from my BAEC account? Spent a rather large chunk yesterday and they are still there…

    • BlueHorizonUK says:

Can take a few days for them to disappear

    • CV3V says:

When i have made amendments to bookings over the phone it has required a revised ticket to be processed manually, in which case it can take a couple of weeks for the avios to be taken. But, they will be taken!

  • Michael C says:

We’re thinking of LHR-BKK business in late March ’18. Do we know what routes the new “suites” might first appear on? Thanks in advance.

    • JamesB says:

Although not comparable on product quality, somebody reported cash fares on TK exLHR for just over £1100 a couple of weeks back. There is possibly the option to stopover in IST 24+ hours on outward journey and save on APD. There have also been a number of big miles and smiles bonuses of late so it might be worth exploring and considering.

      • Michael C says:

Thanks a million, James! Only did TK on a random GRU-EZE, but it was great.

        • JamesB says:

I’m not sure if the fare is still around but I’ve seen £1250ish come and go regularly on TK so keep looking. If you have the amex trailfinders offer you might be able to use that too if the fare can be accessed via a TA. IIRC it was John the original tip came from so thanks is to him or another, just passing on.

          • Michael C says:

Yep, found 1100 for Easter ’18! Obvs. no Avios, but for that amount of saving for 3 of us, and a decent business class on TK…thanks again!

          • JamesB says:

Good stuff. You should get a useful stash of miles and smiles for something too. Worthwhile checking the scheme and other *A partners for best option. Given there are three of you a scheme offering household account might be best.

  • Steve says:

Normally I would jump on something like this, had a search for during my leave dates of 28dec-4thjan and found next to diddly squat, in fact the Sweden page claims there are no offers on at all!! Cannot find anything for less than 40,000sek, same with Prague, then I gave up.

    • Rob says:

I would expect that those dates are excluded due to Christmas / New Year, even though Qatar does not explicitly say so. You will have noted the Christmas / New Year blackout on the BA World Traveller Plus deal.

    • CV3V says:

I have the same problem every year as i always go to Asia at christmas/new year and never been able to find any bargains. It is peak time, even economy flights that can be had in low season for £450 can go for over £1000. Therefore i still place a lot of value on avios points combined with BA 2-4-1 voucher.

  • the real harry1 says:

last 2 started Sept then March so could be along soon
