Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

SAVE THE DATE: Head for Points Christmas Party, Tuesday 12th December

After last year’s success we are delighted to announce that we are holding another Head for Points Christmas party this year.

We are currently still in the process of finalising everything but we can announce that – as we really liked last year’s venue – we will be taking over the Dry Martini bar at the Melia White House Hotel, by Regents Park, once again.

We can also announce that Qatar Airways is generously sponsoring the party.  Regular readers will know that we rate the Qatar Airways business class product very highly – especially the new Qsuite currently being introduced (photo below) which comes with its own door.  The fact that you can earn Avios and British Airways tier points when you fly with Qatar Airways, due to their membership of the oneworld alliance, is an extra bonus.

Readers have responded very positively to the Qatar Airways sales that we have covered on HfP this year and the airline was happy to give something back.

Because we need to ensure that people who ask for tickets turn up, we will be charging for tickets again.  However, your ticket covers unlimited house wine, draught beer and soft drinks between 6pm and 8pm.  We are not making a penny from this and indeed Qatar Airways is footing the bulk of the cost (thanks).  After 8pm, the bar will remain open for cash payments for anyone who wants to stay longer.

We will confirm the cost next week, but it is likely to be £20 per person.  We need to charge VAT this year which is why it has crept up from the £15 we charged last year.

There will also be a prize draw on the night.  We will confirm the prizes in the next few weeks – those of you who came last year will know that we gave away well over £1,500-worth of hotel rooms, points and credits.  Please get in touch at anika at headforpoints.com if your company would like to donate a prize in return for some publicity on HfP and at the event itself.

Tickets will go on sale next week – we will publish full details in another article in a few days.  We will sell them in two tranches, one at the weekend, to give everyone a chance.

There will be 150 tickets available.  Last year the tickets sold out within a day – much to our relief and surprise – and we expect them to go just as quickly this year.  Please do not make any non-cancellable travel plans until you have a ticket.

We hope that as many of you as possible can come along to meet Rob and myself and to talk miles, points, credit cards and travel with other readers.  Bring a friend (but only if they are happy to talk about travel all night) or come by yourself – you won’t struggle to find someone to share your stories with.

We will have name badges this year – which will double-up as your raffle ticket – to make it easier for people to introduce themselves.  You might even win a prize.

More details next week, but pencil in the date now if you’d like to come.

Great news that a Christmas bash has been arranged. Whilst I can’t make it, wish everyone who can a great evening.

  • Liz says:

We will actually be in London on the 12th Dec! It is our Silver Wedding Anniversary – and we have booked to go to a show so won’t be able to attend! Bummer!

    • JamesB says:

Might be worth paying £20 each anyway Liz to have a chance of winning the raffle 😉

      • Genghis says:

Tickets prob collected on entry like last year. Prizes were very decent last year. I won the Sony noise cancelling headphones 🙂

      • Rob says:

If you’re not there, we redraw!

        • JamesB says:

So popping out to the small boys room could cost somebody a Qsuite to Oz 🙂

          • Rob says:

Yup …. although more likely to cost you a couple of HEx tickets. Melia should be good for a decent prize given the profit margins on what we are spending with them … seems you can’t get Melia Rewards points from events either!

    • Polly says:

Liz, what a shame. Here’s a thought. Am sure a few of us might get there around 5.30 or earlier! for an extra half hour so you could come say hello and meet a few. Would that work. Know you have your show booked but it would still give you time to get back over to the theatre?? Such a busy time of year too…but such a pity not to and you actually in London…

  • Michael says:

If the limit is 150 people and they think they will get 150 people without issue then why would they need to host it on a Friday night or similar. I live in the North West and while it can be annoying that so much is London centric in this country I can easily see the logic to this one! Also can you imagine the cost to hire a central London bar on a Thursday / Friday before Christmas!

  • Alan says:

Was hoping to perhaps fly down this year but not going to manage it midweek. Can appreciate why it’s being held then (am sure rates massively higher on a Fri/Sat night near Christmas) but suspect will get more of the email subscribers (which Rob says are mainly Londoners) than commenters as a result!

    • Polly says:

But we will see you on Dec 1st Alan???

      • Alan says:

Fingers-crossed – waiting until nearer the date to know timing for my friend – he’s got a newborn so things all still a up-in-the-air!

  • Mr X says:

This is great Rob and Anika.

Tuesdays actually work very well for those of us who are jammed with work / client / personal engagements every weds, thurs, friday, especially so in December.

I’ve never met any of you folk before – looking forward to it!

  • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

Double booked this year unfortunately. Hopefully can make it to one of the Amex Fridays.

  • Wally1976 says:

Coming from the midlands and working in Coventry (with an office available in London) and with children who need to be taken places on a Saturday morning it works better for me being in the week. However, still doesn’t look like I’ll be able to make it this time unfortunately due to daughter’s carol service 🙁

  • Clarence says:

How about next years HFP party being held here in Belfast on a Friday evening. After all it’s rated the top place for a weekend
