Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get 1,000 bonus Avios with an Avis car rental

Avis is BA’s preferred choice of car hire partner.

Ironically, earning Avios from Avis is not as generous as it could be – some airlines offer 1,000 miles per rental.  British Airways only offers 500 Avios per rental (or more if you are a big spender, as it is actually 500 or ‘3 Avios per £1’, whichever is greater).

Avis bonus avios

There is an extra 250 Avios if you pay with a BA Amex and a further 750 when you rent four times in a year.

The best benefit, for me, is the ‘free additional driver’.  This typically save £20-£25 per rental, assuming two people will be sharing the driving.

Anyway … there is now a new mobile booking site available.

Avis will give you 1,000 bonus Avios when you book via this site.  However, there are some T&C’s which will throw out most of us:

  • Minimum ‘intermediate’ car size
  • Minimum 3-day rental
  • Rental to be completed by 31st December

That said, if you can meet the T&C’s then the free Avios are worth having.  You would be getting 1,500 (with the bonus) for your rental, or 1,750 if paying with a BA American Express card.

Is intermediate the same as medium? Their mobile site doesn’t offer me an ‘intermediate’ option.

    • Raffles says:

Neither does the Avis UK website! I’ve no idea, to be honest. US system is Sub Compact, Compact, Intermediate, Standard. Intermediate holds 5 pax, 2 large cases and 2 small cases, but you can’t compare that with the UK system they use …..!
