Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Reminder: the Foursquare / Amex / Shell deal ends on 18th April

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Just a quick heads to remind you that the Foursquare / Shell / American Express promotion ends on April 18th.

You will save £15 on any £50 spend at a Shell garage when you pay with any American Express card and sign-up for the promotion via Foursquare before you visit.

Even if you don’t need any petrol, the cashback would still come through on a grocery purchase. Or suprise your loved one with £50 of petrol station flowers! More usefully, some Shell garages also sell gift cards for other retailers.

Note that Foursquare has a track record of pulling registration for these deals 1 day before they expire, so don’t leave it until the 18th to sync your Amex card.

Full details on how to register for Foursquare can be found here.

This might be dead already. I’ve had a failure to credit on a card I’d already registered, and I didn’t see the special last time I checked in at a Shell.

  • JPG says:

My experience is also that Shell fails to appear on a search of the Specials in an area, but if you search for Shell then Foursquare finds it and it all works correctly from there.

If you did check in and load the offer to your card, but didn’t get any confirmation afterwards (usually comes through on the Foursquare app within a minute of paying) then you should still check your statement. I did everything right when I spent over £50 recently, but got no confirmation, only to find that my account was still credited with the £15.

    Hope this helps.

  • DaveB says:

I echo JPG’s comments, as I received a message from Foursquare immediately after spending £50 at Shell with my BA Amex, but never received one after using my MBNA AAdvantage Amex. However, both accounts have now sucessfully received the £15 credit.

So long as Foursquare confirm you have registered your card successfully for the Shell promo prior to making the £50 minimum purchase then it seems as though everything ought to work fine, regardless of whether you receive a message from them afterwards.

  • KeithS says:

Did my 6th (and probably last) £50 today.

Not enough time to use the rest of the Amex cards that I and Mrs K are accumulating.

Still, can’t complain at a free £90 – and this one is truly what I would have been spending anyway.

  • John Trops says:

Thanks for the reminder! I’ve got eight cards synced between me and my wife to eight different four square accounts. Is there anyway to find out which card is synced to which four square account?

    • Louie says:

Look at the email you were sent when you signed up – the last four digits of the card are shown.

  • John Trops says:

    Thanks Louie!

    • Louie says:

Actually I wasn’t quite correct – I meant the email you sent when you synced the card and it’s the last five digits not four!

  • The Phantom says:

I cannot get the shell special offer on the phone app. I have searched under shell and checked in on each one yet the special does not show. Can anyone assist- Thanks

  • The Phantom says:

I posted earlier that I wasn’t getting the offer on my card. I logged in using a different card and it works.
    Thanks for the heads up!
