Priority Club Black Visa – a small but very useful improvement

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Sometimes it is the little things that are important!

The Priority Club Black Visa credit card is not a bad one to get, especially as there is a link on the ‘Credit Cards Update‘ page for 40,000 points as a sign-up bonus.  That is 80% of a free night at their poshest hotels, and up to 8 free nights during a PointBreaks promotion!

You also get Platinum status for your stays at Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Indigo etc properties.

The card also gives you a free night at any of their hotels when you spend £10,000 in a year.  This is worth £250 if used in the InterContinental hotels in New York, Paris, London etc – although you need to deduct the £99 annual fee when considering the value of this voucher.

A couple of days ago, Priority Club launced a new feature.  You can now redeem your free night online.  Click on ‘Manage Account’ after logging in, and you’ll see ‘Free Night Status’ in the left hand menu.  There is a button there to click to book.

Previously you had to ring Priority Club to make the booking.

Why is this especially cool?  Well, you might, like me, sign up your (different sex to you) partner for cards.  And you might have trouble persuading your wife of the value of your crazy schemes and to ring up Priority Club and make the booking, and you can’t really impersonate her on the telephone.

Now you’re sorted – you can book online from their account, and they won’t know a thing about it!

Ha ha ha …. So true…. I have come to know that the Mrs. just does not share the same enthusiasm for these things like others here….

I finally got my 40k bonus and my account has been upgraded to Gold not Platinum. Is this an error or a change. I intend to get to the £10k target, which will get me to 60k PC and I’ll then be Plat, but maybe something to bear in mind If you just plan to get the 40k initial bonus (and hopefully the unadvertised Plat status) and then stop using it.

    Finally!

The ipad/iPhone got an update, but not to show this as far as I can see.

the wife and daughter stayed at the holiday inn express in Rotherham last night for a gymnastics comp and with my platinum card they got a free glass of wine and a chunky kit-kat

last week in hammersmith I got a free glass of wine too.

previously in the last six stays I hadn’t received anything!

I’m from Rotherham, still end up there occasionally as my brother is still there. We usually end up in the main Holiday Inn just off M1 J33 for convenience, but its not great. May try the HIX at some point.

I can echo pauldb’s comment above.. the IHG card nolonger gives platinum status, but the 40k points did post and I also got gold status.

The Platinum status should still be available. I applied for PC Black Visas for myself and the better half. Before any points had transferred across to my PC account (due to the delay in receiving March statement points) I phoned up PC and asked them why my account hadn’t been upgraded to Plat, as this was a benefit I was expecting when taking out the top tier UK credit card. Within 3 days I was upgraded.

With my fiancée’s account I noted that her account was upgraded to Gold when the 40k points transferred. So I called up PC Rewards again and went through the same process – informing them the account should have been upgraded to Platinum due to her holding Black credit card. Within 3 days it was also upgraded.

I’d suggest calling quickly in case they make a formal decision to not allow new card holders the Plat upgrade.

      • Oli Reaction says:

momomo thanks very much, I have called PC and they seem happy to oblige – lets see if they bump me to Plat in the next few days!
