Starwood launches ‘SPG Social’ with additional special promotions

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Starwood Preferred Guest, the Sheraton / Westin / W / aloft etc programme, has launched ‘SPG Social’.

Full details can be found here.

Now, at this stage it is not entirely clear what is going to be offered.  Starwood wants you to link your Facebook account to your SPG account.  It is then promising to send you targeted hotel information based on the travel plans it can identify from your FB postings.

Whilst this is still a beta product, there are hints that Starwood will make special promotions available to members of SPG Social.  You may therefore want to give it a go and sign-up – or you may decide that you don’t want SPG invading your privacy!

    Facebook? That’s me out, then.

Does anybody really thnk that SPG (or whoever) is going to use FB for realistic promotions? I don’t, other than the odd burst.

  • Nick Burch says:

They already have FourSquare and Twitter integrations in the mobile app, I guess it was only time before Facebook joined the mix too…

  • Dominic says:

Well, I gave it a go. So far all it’s done is identify an upcoming stay at a London SPG hotel and offer me some 20% off codes for a few restaurants nearby.
