  I can hardly contain my indifference to these very poor offers. Most of us would still be trying to earn a flight by the time we’re 100 years old at these award rates.

  Slightly OT, but does anyone know whether all spend at Heathrow counts as “travel” spend for the purposes of Amex PR Gold? I’ve always put Heathrow spend on BA PP but would like to know whether I’m missing out on an extra half mile per pound.

    No, travel spend only covers actual means of transportation (flights, trains, car hire etc) and hotels. You also get the double points on foreign spend which stacks with travel spend – I received quadruple points last month when paying for a hotel abroad with my gold card.

    Incidentally, has anyone else noticed a change in customer service since the switch from Worldpoints to Heathrow Rewards? I hit the 500 standard point threshold for double points a while ago and despite a few emails, they are yet to confirm this. Also, lots of transactions not tracking or being processed – including the bonus 50 points for food spending.

      I am still missing some points from yesterday morning, which would normally have gone on overnight. Not exactly cause for panic yet, of course!

  I’m a bit new to all this point-chasing (if that’s the right word), but is there any way to benefit on a larger scale from promotions like these, other than through what I would deem as “normal activity” (i.e. buying a meal whilst in Heathrow because I’m hungry)

  So in simple terms, is there anything I can purchase and then easily re-sell, which would gain points without losing much (if any!) money…

  I’m guessing in reality that’s what we’re all after! I just wondered if anyone could give me any pointers?

    Be careful with the point chasing. Basically it is a trap: the companies want to make sure you keep buying with them. No problem as long you don’t get carried away and still keep an eye on the value of the products in relation to what the competition is offering. No use in paying like 10% over the odds to get some Avios, Tesco clubpoints, etc.

    I am lucky with a natural desire to get the best value and points for money – unless my boss is paying for it, then I don’t care 🙂

      Cheers Frenske, I concur and I’m initially taking it very lightly and just dipping my toe.

      Resale seems to be the major problem with most items, as unless you have a friend / relative / colleague that would want the item (for example, if you could pass it on cheaper than ‘shop’ price) it seems you are otherwise limited to either CEX or Ebay as a means of ‘disposal’… which risks a flooded market for either option, or risks fraud, additional seller fee’s etc for the latter

      Apple TV at Dixons Travel is cheaper than shop price as are most Apple products in Dixons Travel.

  I recently bought a laptop and a few accessories at Heathrow but didn’t have my card with me (stupidly!) – have emails them to find out how to add points retrospectively but had no response. Has anyone had any experience with this? the purchase was about £750 so worth doing! Thanks for any help

    The customer service has gone massively downhill since Heathrow Rewards was launched. The postal address has changed cities, so I imagine they have fired the old management company and got a new one, or brought it in-house.

    There is even a message on the Heathrow Rewards website now apologising for the massive backlog.
