Here is an interesting offer if you are interested in getting Hilton HHonors Gold status.

Hilton Gold is generally seen as the best of the mid-tier hotel statuses, because it offers three genuinely useful benefits:

Free breakfast (except at Waldorf-Astoria)

Free internet

A (pretty much guaranteed) upgrade

Hilton is currently offering a free trial of Gold until Christmas in various targetted promotions, but if you didn’t receive those then you can’t take part. In which case, this offer may work instead.

Online travel forum Milepoint (a very-much smaller version of Flyertalk) is currently offering Hilton Gold as a benefit if you sign up for their Premium membership package. This costs $49.

There are offer benefits included as well (National car rental status, 1000 United Airlines miles) but it is the Hilton Gold card which will attract most attention.

The link to the Milepoint subscription page is here (deleted as now dead). Hilton Gold will run until February 2015 so you actually get 16 months of status for your $49. This is a pretty good deal and would pay for itself in just one Hilton stay, assuming two people both got free breakfast.

    If I have the Hilton credit card and made gold through spend, can anyone confirm when the gold status will run out? I made gold this year – so will it run out in 2014 or 2015?

      Your gold status will run until March 2015. When status is earned it always runs through the next year and into the first quarter of the following year. I hope that makes sense!

        Sounds good. So I should only have to spend £10k on my Hilton card once every two years to maintain Gold status.

    About £30 with current exchange rates.
    Given it a go to see what happens. Got 1 or 2 Hilton stays next month and probably a couple more in Kuala Lumpur in Jan that could benefit from this.

      No, they’ve always given away Gold. Remember it used to be an Amex Platinum benefit (one year only, I admit) until last year. There is already some push back on the free breakfast – at Conrad New York, for example, I was allowed to take one a modest selection of options (juice + pasty basket + coffee I think I took) and anything else was charged.

    I like Hilton Gold status. It is still one of the best value loyalty status out there. I stay about 35-40 nights every year in Hilton properties for work as well as personal travel. This is typically enough for me to retain gold. However, seeing all these other ways of attaining Gold status is a bit worrying. Is another devaluation on the cards? Just wondering…

      Hilton have given away Gold for ever. At least twice in the last 10 years I have been randomly sent a Gold card or been given an easy promotion to qualify.

      No. Rules say you can choose “1,000 HHonors Bonus Points per stay or a complimentary continental breakfast for you and up to one additional guest registered to the same room each day of your stay”

      (PS. This is not just at Hilton. Hilton HHonors Gold also gets you free breakfast at Conrad, DoubleTree and Hilton Garden Inn.)

        This depends on the property to be honest. We stayed at the Hilton Capital in August for a week, and all four of us received complimentary breakfast. However at the Doubletree Suites in Times Square, also in August, we were given vouchers DS2 was free as under 5, but DS1 we were supposed to pay for but as we didn’t always have breakfast in the hotel we were able to roll the vouchers over.
        Plus I’ve always received the 1k bonus as well as breakfast.

        So it is just a continental breafast we get, not buffet? How does this work in properties where all breakfsst items are present in a single buffet?

          Again this depends on the property. Hilton Capital was supposed to be continental which we could have in the lounge or the restaurant. We had hot in the restaurant and nothing was said and we weren’t charged for it either!
          DoubleTree Suites in NYC was full breakfast.

          Varies by property. Most don’t differentiate, generally you get the buffet but pay for additional specially ordered items.
