New American Express / Foursquare cashback offers launched

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

It has been a while since we have seen any American Express / Foursquare promotions.  Last year they were very generous but the promotions recently have either been weak or restricted.

A number of new deals have now been announced for the mega Westfield shopping centre in Shepherd’s Bush.

The deals are (remember, these are ONLY at Westfield Shepherds Bush):

Coach – Spend £250 or more on one transaction, receive a £50 statement credit

House of Fraser – Spend £80 or more on one transaction, receive a £15 statement credit

Rigby & Peller – Spend £200 or more on one transaction, receive a £40 statement credit

Donna Ida – Spend £150 or more on one transaction, receive a £30 statement credit

The White Company – Spend £80 or more on one transaction, receive a £15 statement credit

Remember that gift card transactions DO count, so if you are a regular shopper at any of these places then you could pick up some gift cards and use them over the coming months.

Full details of how to register can be found here.   Whilst this page is branded with a British Airways American Express logo, you can register ANY UK personal Amex card, even if issued by MBNA or Lloyds TSB.

The promotion runs from 28th October to 12th November, and you MUST register before making your purchase by signing up to Foursquare, syncing your American Express card AND ‘checking in’ at the relevant store.  Failure to ‘check in’ means that you will not receive your cashback.

How to sync your Amex card to your Foursquare card

If you are new to this deal, this is how you sync your Amex card to your Foursquare card:

Download the Foursquare app onto your ipad, iphone, Android device or whatever you carry!  (A wi-fi only ipad or ipod touch will also work OK)

Sign up. Make a careful note of the email address you use.  Ignore all the screens about linking your Facebook etc accounts.

Sync your MBNA, Lloyds or Amex-issued Amex card with the Foursquare account by going to this website.  You must use the same email address as in 1.

Go back to Foursquare and search for House of Fraser Westfield, White Company Westfield etc. You need to click ‘Check In’ and you will see a special offer flick up. Click ‘Load to Card’ and the offer is set up directly with Amex.

Repeat for each Amex card you have, with a new Foursquare account. It would be sensible to make a note of which Amex card and email address links to each account.

You can actually carry out steps 1-3 on a desktop PC as well. What you cannot do is Step 4, as the ‘Check In’ box is not active – you need to use the app on a iPad, iPhone etc to do this.

There is nothing to show in the shop when you make your purchases. The shop will never even know you are taking part in the promotion. 3-4 days after making the relevant shop purchase, a credit will hit your Amex account.

Thanks – I’ve never done a Foursquare promotion but I need a new winter coat anyway, so this is ideal. Am I right in thinking that the best way to play this is to do, say, 3 separate transactions at HoF in which I buy £80 of gift cards, and then use those cards to actually pay for the coat? Or is this limited to one credit per account?

    • Rob says:

It is one credit per card. However, supplementary cards get it as well, and you can do it across different Amex cards in your name. So, OK to do 3 x gift vouchers across 3 cards linked to the same Amex account if 2 are supplementary cards. Also OK to use an Amex Gold, BA Amex and AA Amex in your name, for example.

You need a separate Foursquare account for each card (different email address required for each) and you must follow the check-in procedure each time.

      • Nick says:

Perfect, thanks. I think we’ve got 5 cards in total, including supplementary cards, so more than enough.

  • Ant says:

Nick it is limited to one credit per card, but if you have more than 1 Amex than you should get £80 gift cards on each card and use those to buy the coat.

Remember to set up a foursqaure account for each card – different email address, and then check in for each account. It is a bit fiddly but not too complicated.

You should get a notification on your foursquare immediately once you do the transaction.

    • andy21 says:

Notifications only come through straight away for Amex Amex cards, not Lloyds, MBNA etc, so don’t worry if you don’t get a notification.

  • Ant says:

Not directly related to this but I registered my MBNA Amex for the London Restaurant Festival and used it at 2 restaurants but did not get the £25 credit. I think this is because one restaurant was in a hotel and it is showing as the name of the hotel and not restaurant on the credit card.

MBNA don’t seem to know what offer I am talking about. Is there an Amex telephone number I can call for this?

    Thanks

    • Freebs says:

Happened to me with the Shell promo. Despite endless promises of a call back, I never got anywhere with it.

  • Frenske says:

Oh wow … a discount in generally overpriced shops. Not really something I would travel for from SW London to Westfield.

    • Rob says:

You can save the gift cards for the January sales!

    • Alan says:

Even less benefit when you’re at the other end of the country! 😉 Another nice job from Amex’s promo team it seems… 😛

  • thomas says:

The deals are certainly much poorer. Amex are suffering in this economy too. They are going to reduce the amount of cash back earned on some of their cards from next year…

  • David Butcher says:

I have nothing against London; indeed I’m a Londoner currently exiled in the Midlands. Oh Amex, Amex, for £450 a year please give me some offers I can enjoy away from the capital.

  • colm says:

You can also get some deals on restaurants by linking your card to Tripadvisor. Having done this, log into Tripadvisor and click on the Amex Link and you should see a whole bunch of deals (for example, they have D&D restaurants at save £10 on £50 spend. Same as the normal D&D offer, but easier to split across cards).

  • George Kyriakos says:

Hey – are these offers live yet? I checked in at the White Company, and got nothing! Plus AmEx has chosen not to alert me about offers even though I’m subscribed to them…

    Any ideas?

    • AndyGWP says:

From the article: “The promotion runs from 28th October to 12th November…”

      😉 🙂
