New Starwood dining discounts in London for SPG members

Starwood Preferred Guest has launched a new range of dining discounts for its members.

These are valid globally, but I have just focussed on the London ones here.  You can navigate through the website to look at other areas.  The key here is that you don’t need to be a hotel guest to take advantage of these discounts – and you will earn SPG points for your meal at the same time!

Here is the new London list.

As you can see, the general discount is 10 per cent off your food bill, although a couple of places are offering 15 per cent.  Spice Market (photo above) at the W Leicester Square is included in the ‘10% discount’ list, which makes it an interesting option for anyone (sub 30 years of age!) planning a night out in the West End.

Starwood Preferred Guest is free to join at spg.com although you will need to print off a membership card as they do not send one until you have completed one hotel stay.  American Express Platinum members get an automatic status boost to Gold level as long as they register at americanexpress.co.uk/platinum and complete the appropriate online form.

Here is my secret tip for a fairly quiet meal and drink in the West End.  Next door to the W is the Empire casino.  This has free entry, although ID will be required.  Inside it is fairly classy with a number of decent eating and drinking options, including a bar with an outside balcony overlooking Leicester Square.  As with all casinos, the food and drink is modestly priced as well.

    10% off over priced food

I would suggest getting a taste card for 50% of lots of restaurants with some gems available

  • Geoggy says:

The casino is an interesting to. Do you need to join and I can only see one restaurant on their website is it any good?

    • Rob says:

It is a while since I’ve been, but it was OK and represents very good value for money. No need to book either, just wander in.

You will need to join the casino to get in under UK law but that can be done on the spot with ID, not sure what counts as ID these days so best to take driving licence or passport.

      • Rich says:

Not sure if you do need to join any more.
I have been to the Hippodrome for meetings on two occasions recently and just wanted in.
The bars there are nice too- it’s open 24 hours and had been refurbished impressively.

      • Aceman says:

Empire and hippodrome let you walk in, no more “cooling off period” or need for membership, however you will need ID for any transactions (ie cashing out chips) above a certain amount, if memory serves £1000.

I’ve heard the food at hippodrome is excellent, but never eaten there, the interior is really quite special there.

Another excellent low cost dining option just around the corner is Brasserie Zedel, good brasserie food, beautiful large room, very reasonable prices.

        • Rob says:

Haven’t tried the Hippodrome yet. Zedel does have an excellent reputation as well although, again, I haven’t got around to trying it yet.

  • Hingeless says:

Many gems – to start with fredericks in islington

  • Kay says:

Almost all of these are on the Taste card (50% off) anyway.
