There is a growing trend now for loyalty programmes to send you an email on your birthday.  As I am signed up to a lot of schemes, it meant I received a lot of emails on Thursday.

Some included some perks as well.

SAS EuroBonus offered me 1,000 miles on my next flight.

To celebrate your birthday today, we’d like to give you 1000 Extra points as a bonus the next time you travel with us between December 2, 2013 – February 28, 2014. It’s just our way of helping you enjoy that award flight, hotel stay or upgrade even sooner. All you need to do is say “Yes!” by November 30, 2013 at the latest to get your birthday bonus.

Have a lovely day!
Best wishes from all of us at SAS EuroBonus

Lufthansa Miles & More sent me a link to a VERY impressive video.  It was fundamentally a domino-toppling video, but using Silver Miles & More cards (I am a Silver level member) instead of dominos.  And, at the end, the collapsed dominos spelt out my name and Happy Birthday!

And they sent me this as well:

We hope that you enjoyed the very personal and heartfelt birthday surprise we sent you! Now, here’s your next surprise: fulfill your desired premium even faster—with a voucher worth 5,000 award miles, which you can easily redeem online at Lufthansa WorldShop.

I don’t think there is anything worth having in the Lufty WorldShop, but please post below if you know otherwise!

Hertz sent me some bonus points:

With your special day coming soon, we wanted to send you something we hope will help to make it that little bit more enjoyable – 400 Hertz Gold Plus Rewards bonus points on your next rental. To claim them, all you need to do is book before 18/11/2013.  400 points gets you halfway to a reward rental day. Which really is a nice little bonus for your birthday – or any other day.

The best, however, came from hotel group Melia and its MeliaRewards programme.  I have actually written about this perk before, but it was good to receive it myself.  A free night, if I buy another one.

Melia birthday

For MeliáRewards your birthday is a very special day. That’s why we would like to invite you to enjoy 1 free night for your next booking in one of our Meliá Hotels International. To get your gift visit www.meliarewards.com/birthday and input the promotion code which appears below to book a stay of 2 or more nights. We will give you one of the nights free, so you get a choice of 2 nights for the price of 1, 3 for 2, 4 for 3, 5 for 4, 6 for 5 or 7 for 6. You have 30 days from the date of your birthday to make your booking and up to one year to enjoy your stay.

Which was nice of them.  Thanks also to all the readers who sent over birthday greetings as well.

Avios.com sent my wife 500 Avs on her b’day this year, which was nice – but they completely dissed me, diddly squat 😉

    Separate a/cs btw.

How on earth do you pronounce the Finnish one? (In the picture, which I presume came from SAS and which I presume most readers usually gloss over)

My dad, who is 82 is in January, got an email yesterday from BA offering him 4,000 Avios for a January flight in ET, 8,000 for a flight in CE, 15,000 in WT or WT+ and 30,000 in CW. He goes to America in WT+ in March and September every year, his pattern for at least the last 15 years. This year though he has been poorly and he didn’t go in September. He was about to book a flight in the last few days of December instead. Looks like he’ll delay until early January! Thank you BA 🙂

    Happy Birthday Raffles!
Thank you very much once more for all the great postings every day.

It’s my wife’s birthday in December, and she has had a ‘birthday email’ from Avios a couple of days ago – I only mention it as I know you posted something similar not long ago and there was confusion over whether it was for Avios’ birthday or not. Here’s what it said:

    ———————-

Not long now till your birthday – and you could spend it somewhere extra special with help from our free gift.

We’ve just put a 3,000 Avios voucher in your account, that you can use for any of our hotels, any place you fancy – so why not treat yourself to a night away?

    Have a great birthday.

Yes, I forgot to mention the Avios birthday bonus in todays post, because it came a few weeks ago. It is still sitting in my account, I have until Dec 1st to use it (which is unlikely).
